Some dirt on Randy Breen, of LucasArts.
I think this is kind of interesting...
I saw the following posted on the forums of Just Adventure: Randy directs all game development for LucasArts. Following a productive restructuring of the internal development organization, he has focused the company's resources on the creation of quality games for emerging platforms. Randy joined LucasArts in 2000 after distinguished career in software development at Electronic Arts (EA). His years there as a Producer, Designer, Creative Director, and Executive Producer were marked by a succession of critically-acclaimed, award winning titles, including Road Rash, Road Rash II, bla bla bla... Source: http://www.lucasarts.com/about/officers.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------- MAY to JUNE 2000 STORIES 6/28 The World Has Had Enough Already THE WORLD HAS HAD ENOUGH ALREADY (Fun and Games in the Evil Empire) by FatHammer If you think problems inside EA.COM are reaching epic proportions (bet you just are dying to play EA Checkers on AOL), you ain't heard nothin' yet. So here's the skinny. These jokers go on a big time hiring spree and make the poor development bastards crunch and sweat big time to meet their deadlines worse than a Kathy Lee Gifford sweat shop. Meanwhile "Designer" Randy Breen (and we use that term loosely here) is coming in a few hours a day, hanging out, and then taking a 7 week sabbatical. And all the while... there is NO design. There still isn't!! Everyone is flying around by the seat of their pants. And to top it all off, Breen leaves EA for LucasArts. Ohmigod, Head of Development for LucasArts... Randy? I don't even want to imagine what that place must be like now. Source: http://www.fatbabies.com/story_may-june00.html -------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know how valid this information is, but it looks like mr. Breen has a reputation. A very, very bad reputation. And this guy is now taking the rudder at LucasArts. Un-be-liev-able! --Erwin

Sounds pretty much like what I've heard about the Randy. I get the distinct impression that he is not well liked at LEC either.

I would like to say that I am surprised, but I am not at all. One thing that becomes readily apparent if you are ever in a corporate environment is that those in charge are often the least capable and deserving of their position.
In a scary way, it even makes some sense. Anyone who is actually any good at their job, can't really be promoted without sacrificing the output of their current position, so it is the less capable who often wind up there instead... Even more unfortunate in this day and age is that the interview process nowadays stresses less on skill set and more on impression than anything else. Someone who can kiss butt has a better chance at getting hired than someone who can't, even if they are less qualified. Most places don't even bother with references anymore... If you want a job, the trick is to have a resume full of exaggeration you can aptly BS your way through when questioned. Probably the only talent Breen has... |

his rap sheet isn't very "adventure" game is it? It's much more "action adventure". And there's some real stinkers on it too.
check it out. I bet he doesn't like the more "traditional" adventure game. But let's not jump to conclusions. As good as it feels to blame this poopstack, I'm sure it's a group of people responsible. |

One thing I was wondering, you guys, is what the hell are the Cavefish doing in a game about biker gangs?

Randy Breen.
Very interesting info, Erwin. I have a pretty good feeling this Randy Breen partly contributed to the death of Sam and Max: Freelance Police.
If he did do this, I'd like to bash him in the face with a frying pan |

Does anyone know where I can find a poster with Mr Breen's face on it, I think it would look really nice on my Dart Board.

Mr. Breen needs to wear a paper bag over his head nowadays.
So if you see anyone wearing a paper bag over his face, you'll know it's him. --Erwin

I just did a Google search for "Fat babies" industry substitute....
Though this may perhaps be the most absurd search line I have ever tried, it does stem from a valid interest of mine. Fat babies has been dead for a very long time now. Is there some like site for game industry dirt? |

Hmmm, I don't know. Fatbabies was great, although I don't know how reliable they were.
The quoted article is supposed to be a letter sent to them from someone inside of EA at the time. Unbelievable how this Breen guy is now more or less --Erwin
