Yeah, this is too true. I seem to remember April from "The Longest Journey" changing clothes, which I had never seen in an adventure game I had played so far, since I tend to play 1st person. lol Zoe had the same outfit in the sequel, I think, except for a coat and a disguise. I still thought it was initiative at the time.

I´m glad you remember hand of fate; so rarely has game makers considered the main characters wardrobe as in this game.
Interesting topic btw; thinking about Gabe Knights white (stinking) t-shirt, Guybrush´s pirate pants, Simons robe, and so on, makes you think. Do they ever do laundry or is that something you have to forget about when on a quest of saving the world? Ewww.) |

Come to think of it I can't understand how our favorite heroes manage without ever going to a toilet (or eat and drink for that matter). They have planty of smaller quirks as well - for example many of them never blink.

Wow-I sometimes wonder that. Some of them don't seem to sleep, and even fewer worry about food or drink. It's the toilet that I've never thought of. That's an ingenius question...

Well, through the course of his three games, Gabriel and Grace sleep, eat/drink (also heavily ), have sex (and that's another pretty uncommon thing) and Gabe even goes to the toilet!

I always thought it was strange the way they swapped Georges Blue jacket for a green one in BS2.

Culpa Innata - you can change to a different outfit every day. Only for the evening. It's working clothes during working hours.

In KQ5 protagonist had to put on a winter cloak in the second part of the game.
And Zanthia with a wardrobe spell, of course. O I think Guybrush changed clothes in the 4th game a couple of times, but I'm not sure.

It's easier in 3D than in 2D, but changing character clothes in a 2D game is a bitch, because unless you simply re-color existing frames of animation, the animators have to redraw all commonly used character animations. So - lack of time/resources/laziness > suspension of disbelief.

Well, I do not expect Kate to change her clothes at all, since she sticks all items under her sweater...

Hmm, in The Moment of Silence, Peter Wright seemed to wear the same clothes for the entire twelve days of his ordeal (Sep. 29-Oct. 10)! His leather jacket and grey jeans were suitable for early autumn NYC, but he should've either boiled or frozen to death in two other locations! (Well, at least he changed into diving gear for a short time. )

Leisure Suit Larry used the toilet in at least a couple games, with fatal consequences in one of them.

Here's another game with clothes' changing going on: Mata Hari wears different outfits throughout the game which was a really nice touch - she stays fashionable all the time, her dancing costumes however seem to lose fabric while the game progresses
As for the "toilet matter": I've only played one game so far that allows you to make your character go to the toilet, and that's "Goin' Downtown". I was pretty amazed when the guy actually used the toilet because usually they refuse |

The Infocom game Leather Goddesses of Phobos actually required you to go to the toilet at the start (which one you used allowed the game to determine your sex with the sex of various in-game characters being amended accordingly)
Being a text-only adventure it wasn't a revealing experience though. Not going to the toilet (that is, not making use of one) was also an option but it just resulted in a messy and abrupt game over when your self-control gave out.

I recently watched a playthrough of Normality and the game lets you use a urinal with the surprising result of having the protagonist wash his face in it.
