Best Sherlock holmes adventure game?
The only Sherlock Holmes game that I had ever beaten was the one that was in FMV, came with 3 cds. And I'm not sure if you can even consider it an adventure game since for the most part, there's no exploration at all and you just keep watching videos.

The Rose Tattoo is my favourite by far, but unfortunately it's an old game that's hard to get hold of (and doesn't run very well in XP).

'Case of the Rose Tattoo' is my favourite, with 'Serrated Scalpel' second.

I doubt anyone would consider them the best Sherlock Holmes games, but dang it, I actually like the Consulting Detective series--if only because I really dig the acting job by the chap who plays Holmes. It probably has the best acting I've ever seen in an FMV game (yeah, I know, that's damning with faint praise...but still!)

The Awakened is my favourite, followed by case of the silver earring. A lot of people love the rose tattoo but I remember being very bored with it.

I've played only Secret of the Silver Earring and Awakened, and I've hated Awakened, so... I pretty much enjoyed SotSE, but there was some pixel-hunting...
As for Awakened, I didn't like neither story/atmosphere, nor gameplay. It's not Doyle-like at all. Btw, this is my 1st post... thanks, Jacques. Last edited by Bon; 09-01-2007 at 10:48 AM. |

Awakened is the best one.
Haven't played any of the old Sherlock Holmes games yet, just the three from Frogwares ( Mystery of The Mummy, The Silver Earring and the Awakened).
Of these three, I would rate The Awakened highest, and give it 8 of 10 points. I really enoyed the sinister athmosphere in that game. Then the Silver Earring, a decent game, but to much pixelhunting and a horrible timed sequence makes it far from perfect. I will rate it 7 of 10 points. The mystery of the mummy is puzzle heavy first person node based, not much dialog or story. I would only give it 3,5 points of 10. I found this interesting article on adventuregamers about the history of Sherlock Holmes games: http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,412 Anyway, in my opinion, Frogwares really have got better for each installment of their Sherlock Holmes series, learning from their mistakes as they go. I really lock forward to Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin, that hopefully will be released before end of 2007. |

I didnt't like atmosphere at all - it wasn't scary at all... and the entire interface seemed so ''un-natural''. To me, the story is the most important part of the game, and Awakened had pretty much lousy story. Silver Earring had great story obviously inspired by Doyle's work, so pixel hunting wasn't a problem. So, I just hope that they'll drop horror kind of story, and stick to traditional ''who murderer who'' type of story in Arsene Lupin. |

Neh, I'm much the same. Awakened doesn't hold a candle to Silver Earring in terms of sheer Holmesianness, IMO. Sure, Silver Earring has a timed- and a sneaking sequence I hate, but the rest of the game more than makes up for that.
And noone can convince me the pixel hunting was worse in Silver Earring than in Awakened. I distinctly recall having to painstakingly crawl through an unlit room to make sure you don't miss anything on the ground, and New Orleans wasn't much better either. |

Serrated Scalpel has always been my favourite.
It had everything that a good Sherlock Holmes game needed.
