Default I've got a Luxury problem

The last month I've been on a bit of a shopping-spree, buying almost every adventuregame I could get hold of (to a nice price of course) so now I have a bit of a luxeryproblem. I have so many games, I don't know where to start..

I'm currently waiting for my dreamfall LE (witch was supposed to arrive in the stores storage yesterday, norway) so I'm debating with myself wether I'm gonna start another adventuregame while wating, or wait for Dreamfall and then start one..

Maybe you can help me choose what adventuregame I should start with. Please, don't choose from your own favourites, but of what you know about the mood in the games, the story etc. What do you think I would like? Here's some pointers to what I like..

My favourites:
TLJ
Still Life
Syberia (1)

I loved Arcadia in TLJ, but I also like Sci-fi. I love story driven games and I like serious/mature themes. Not so fond of first person or exploration games, but if the grafics are good and the story is well written, I can handle it. I actually liked "return to mysterious island" until it started killing me.

My unplayed games:
The secret of the Nautilus - (it was very cheap and I like Jules Verne as a writer, so I bought it despite of not knowing anything about it)
Voyage - (as said before I like Jules Verne)
Agon the Mysterious Codex
Broken Sword II
Broken Sword III
Post Mortem (I loved Still Life, so I thought I should try this even though it's first person, and according to reviews not that good)
In Memorium (I don't even know if this works anymore, but the story intrigued me)
Beyond Good and Evil (I know it's not an AG, but I've read that the story is great, and that lovers of TLJ should try it. I also tried the demo and thought it was okay, even though I had some (big) problems with the steering - turning on the left and right arrow, what were they thinking..)

These games I've started, but not been able to finish:
Gabriel Knight 3 - (sorry but I hate the steering and I HATE the protagonist, and it's just not dragging me in)
Grim Fandango - (I don't get the riddles, and keep looking it up in a walkthrough, so I feel that the game is way over my head..)
Sanitarium - I can't get the stupid game to work propely, it keeps crashing (and yes, I have read the thread about it in the tecnical forum)
Scratches - Stupid game won't work either, and none of the fixes work, and I don't have a pentium processor!

Please recommend what I should start with, and prefrebly don't recommend some of the last games I've listed (unfinished games)

Broken Sword I & II seem a bit of a chore to play these days, for me anyway. I'd say go for Beyond Good and Evil!

Voyage, I loved the trailer and I'd like to play that one myself.

Of course, if you can get over the stering issues, then Beyond Good & Evil is a no-brainer.

You can probably complete Broken Sword II in about a day anyway, so if you want something to fill the time...

Too bad you can´t play Scratches. It was a great game.

I just started Broken Sword the sleeping dragon. It´s really no hit so far. I´m pretty bored.

And tomorrow Dreamfall arrives!!

That wasn´t much help I know.

Have you played the first two? They might change your mind (esp part 2). They are getting on a bit in age now, though...

Some other questions; should I play Broken Sword 2 before 3? If broken sword 2 is finishable in a day, that's probably my best choice, since I must to play dreamfall when it comes (I've preordered online from a norwegian company, so it's probably not arriving before saturday/monday)

I haven't been able to get hold of them.. But if he's a discriminating pig who thinks he's the most beautiful man on earth in the two previous too, I don't think I'll change my mind..

Oh, and has anyone actually played "the secret of the Nautilus"? Please tell me a bit about it.. I think I've read the review here, but I'm not sure..

LOL! I actually thought you were talking about some new adventure game called 'Luxery'. Sounded it like it had an Egyptian theme.

He's much nicer in the second. The first is a balance - still kinda like that on the surface, but you learn that underneath he's a nice guy. The thing is, you're not supposed to like him completly or right off that bat. That's one of the things that makes these games interesting (and allows Grace to voice her disgust).

Hey Panthera, your choice of 3 favourite games just happen to be the last three games I played! =)
In fact, they are the only three I've played since getting back into adventures. I loved all three. And, I'm also looking for something while I wait for my dreamfall LE to arrive. =)

I'm currently playing broken sword I. It's pretty good. Nice sense of humour. I think the cover art of the box is completely wrong though. It gave me the impression that the game was going to be far more serious than what it was. It's a different kettle of fish from the other three though, which may be a good thing you see. It'll give you a break from the more serious side ready for going back into it with Dreamfall.

That's my plan anyway. If I finish broken sword before dreamfall arrives, I may try one of the monkey island games. Or play a bit more of baldurs gate...

Of the list you give I only played Post Mortem. I was disappointed by this game. It has a bug in the beginning that makes you unable to go further if you haven't done something soon enough. And it starts out as an interesting murder case, but becomes more and more weird and vague further on. I didn't finish it. The fact that nobody in this thread even mentioned Post Mortem (as far as I've seen) may also say something...

Why don't you get Dreamfall - The Longest Journey? It's out here in Norway, and it's one hell of a game! I'm surprised really, I didn't think they were gonna pull it off, but this seems to be a worthy successor of the first game.

And if they make a third (which I think they are), I have a feeling it has the potential to be the best of the trilogy, as they will fix up the mistakes from Dreamfall (they will learn that the fighting was a bad choice).

I think the OP is (like me) looking for a game to play while waiting for the Dreamfall LE to arrive (I think).

Some bad news...

I just checked the official dramfall forums, and it seems that the original shipping date of the LE has been changed from the 5th (today) to the 25th!!!

This is not good. =(

Looks like I'm going to be playing more than just BS and monkey island between now and then...

Is there an LE coming out? And why is it released later than the original? I bought the game here in Norway already.

Yes, the LE was suppossed to ship on 5th May. You can only get it by ordering directly from Funcom. It comes in one of those DVD case sized slipcases which holds the game disk (on DVD), the soundtrack CD and a 92 page hardback artwork book. You would also get 3 art prints if you pre ordered before 29th April. It's looks a very nice package. I heard the book also had background story but I can't confirm that.

It's not cheap though... came to $85 when shipping to the UK and tax was added. You can see it here:

No, no no, there's a special Norwegian LE witch is supposed to have arrived in storage this thursday (can be ordered in any norwegian store that have the regular, and it costs 499kr 50 more than the regular), but it's prosponed to the 8. They have some real trouble with the distributor, and that's causing all the delays..

If you read my post, you see that I've already ordered Dreamfall LE, and I'm waiting for it to arrive in my mailbox. I wanted to know witch game I should play while I wait...
