Secret of Monkey Island

It's been a while since I finished Escape from Monkey Island, and I've played through all of them. I was trying to remember if they ever actually revealed the "Secret of Monkey Island", or if it was always left a mystery and/or ambiguous. If anyone could shed some light on the subject, I'd appreciate it.

No, it has never been truly revealed, even though there are a bunch of hypothesis going 'round.

The thing is that Ron Gilbert, who did MI1 and MI2, wasn't a part of MI3 and MI4, making things even more complex. The chances that we'll ever know what his plans for the secret of Monkey Island were are slim, not counting the fact that he probably didn't even know it himself.

And of course, the story lost itself after he stopped being a part of it, so MI3 and MI4 really help.

He's been interviewed about it a couple times, but he never revealed it. It's possible even he didn't plan it out.

He does have it planned out, he just doesnt want to say because he still holds some hope of making a new Monkey Island game.
