Ron Gilbert and his team created this masterpiece in the early 90's and when I experienced this for the first time, I didn't even understand english. Monkey Island is one of those games that help me understand the language. For that I'm very grateful to the excellent people who worked at LucasArts during those times.

The best adventure game ever made.
Need I say more.

I'm particularly happy that the pictured version is the first VGA edition, with the text-based inventory. As I have that version, it doesn't make me feel bad like it does when I see everyone else's fancy picture edition .

A great game, but I still think that the sequel is a little bit better.

Objectively yes, it's better, but... I don't know, there's something about Melee Island that is unique. The beginning of SoMI is my favorite part of all the Monkey Island series.

I am hiring some designers to turn my bar room into a pirate bar. I will call it the scumm bar. At this point I have 4 designers that are pitching their design. I'll keep everyone updated as the room progresses.

But I'm not a big widescreen display. I'm just a little badge worn by a laconic pirate.

Did you know that, if you wait the 10 minutes that Guybrush can hold his breath, you can actally drown in this game? There are a wonderful series of animations towards the end of the time (Guybrush's face goes a wonderful variety of colours) and your action options change after the event. (Things like Rot, Bloat, etc)

Maybe it's a cruel thing to do to a classic AG character but I found it funny.

I loved that bit. There's even an "Order Hint Book" command .

Neither am I! My father is the one with the widescreen (with one broken pixel).

I am a humble standard sized screen that you can turn vertical if you want to, and leave it horizonal if you don't want to (useful for long pieces of art when working in GIMP).

I know! Also, the conversation of the two pirates that come by after some time (before the 10 minutes are over) is hilarious.

I think it's funny *because* they did it to such a classic AG character (although I guess he wasn't 'classic' yet at that time).

I have that problem. And the dead pixel had to be in the centre of the screen rather than the edge to screw up DVD watching. It's not even dead centre - then at least I could have used it to cheat in games with no crosshairs ...

Just a magic moment in a mythical game which is more than a bunch of funny characters and jokes: it's the best rendition to classic adventure that could have done, the best mix of "In stranger tides" with screwball comedy that no one can imagine, and more. More than the sum of its parts, more even than we can remember about it.

He wasn't exactly classic at the time, though.

Well then. If you played it back then it was a cruel thing to do to a poor innocent young lad who just wanted to become a mighty pirate.

But it was still funny.
