Default Community Input Needed on Potential Hit? (QFG5 feedback wanted)

Hi everyone,

Have any of you played Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire? If you have can you guys n' gals give me your feedback about the game, not about the character or plot, I want your feedback on the technology/engine that the game used. Did you like the graphics? Did you enjoy the Scrolling & zooming along with your character? Did you enjoy the particle system?

Once I get some feedback I'll tell you all what I have in mind.

I'm not sure whether that's the right forum to get answers about a commercial game... You'd probably get more input (any input at all, that is) if the thread were moved.

I haven't played QFG5, myself.

Your decision if you want this moved Spitfire. Ninth's right though, you'll probably get more feedback about QFG in the main adventure forum.

The engine was just fine. I really liked the graphics and effects, but control was a little awkward. Also, I wasn't too fond of the combat, clicking away at my enemy isn't really strategic and the hero wandered off on occasion if I clicked wrong. But I don't know if you want combat opinions, so if not, just ignore those. Everything else in the game was just fine. Silmaria is my favorite QFG town to wander.

Because I have a contact that can give me a copy of the QFG5 engine, its done entirly in C++, so I thought it may be worthwhile.

I thought the combat system was good if you used the keyboard that is. Unless you guys didn't read your manuals. Tisk tisk.

The paticle system used in qfg5 is pretty impressive, compare KQ8 & QFG5, and QFG5 was older than KQ8, and KQ8 had the worset particle system ever, although there are some advantages to the morph effects for KQ8.

Enough ranting.

I actually did try the keyboard -- what was it, 1 and 3 to attack, 2 to block? It wasn't too bad and was workable, but I found myself dying less when I'd use the mouse.

Cool to hear that you got the engine. Gonna make an adventure/RPG, or try to use it to make a pure adventure?

Heh, but if you use the mouse you cant block.

I'm not sure, the QFG5 engine is pretty cool. But The QFG5 developer (I aint droppin' names ) who I talked to said that I'd be better off using other engine available, QFG5's engine is a bit too complex for amateur developers, and its rather dated, and there is no support for it.

So I guess I'm not sure if I want to use this engine, it does look a bit tricky. I think we're probably not going to use that engine.

Maybe one of many open source engines would do? Or you could invest in an affordable game development kit like Blitz3D, Torque or Dark Basic.

I had my eyes on the Quake 3 engine actually, its powerful enough to make a good adventure game with enviromental puzzles, and you dont need quake 3 to run it because its recently been made open source.

It's a "just fine" game. It follows the previous games quite faithfully, but I don't know what is missing that don't grab you with the same strength as the rest of the QFG did. Engine is fine, a bit pixellated and a bit dark. Music is very good.
