Here are 2 old games by Interplay that I just recently got to work:
Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster (I let it install normally. I had to use the Quick Time version that came on the CD otherwise it didn't run well and I got some message about the game not being able to decompress it's graphics. I also had to click on the QT install file to get it to install and not let it check for other versions of QT - otherwise it errored out on me. Compatability Mode: Win95 Check everything here except "Runs in 256...." Be sure to check "Run as administrator". ) Mummy: Tomb of the Pharoah (I let it install normally. I was able to get it to run using the Quick Time version I installed from the "Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster" - otherwise I'd suggest to others that they install the Quick Time version from the CD. Compatability Mode: Check "Run as administrator". ) |

More games that run on Vista.
Just installed the 2 games below. Didn't have to do any tweaking or anything to get them to run on Vista.
Dark Fall: The Journal (Dark Fall 1) Lights Out (Dark Fall 2) (Best part I like is that these automatically install the FULL game to run off the hard drive so no disk swapping etc. Yeah!) |

Cameron Files & NVidia
Installed "The Cameron Files: Pharoah's Tomb"
1. Did a normal install letting the game install the files wherever it wanted. 2. Had to tweak NVidia to get rid of the ugly grid lines. Settings I tweaked for NVidia on the game's *.exe (left all the others at default): Antisotropic Filtering = OFF Antialasing - Gama = OFF Antialasing - Mode = OFF Antialasing - Transp. = OFF Conformant Texture Clamp = OFF Force Mip/Maps = Billinear Last edited by Lynn; 03-16-2009 at 10:11 AM. Dracula 1
Recently installed and got Dracula 1 to work on Vista. What I did:
Dracula 1 (Dracula: Resurrection) 1. Did a normal install letting install put files wherever it wanted. 2. Tweaked game's *.exe settings in NVidia: Antisotropic Filtering = OFF Antialiasing - Gamma Correction = OFF Antialiasing - Mode = OFF Conformant Texture Clamp = OFF Force mipmaps = OFF Texture Filtering - Quality = QUALITY Vertical Sync. = FORCE OFF 3. R-click on game's *.exe -> "Properties" and set compatability for: WinXP 4. In game fix: (Discovered this playing around with game.) When movies/sound starts skipping, save & exit game. Then R-click on the game's *.exe -> "Properties" -> and set compatability for Win 2003. When the movies/sound start skipping again, save & exit game. R-click on game's *.exe -> "Properties" -> and set compatability for WinXP again. Switched between these 2 compatability modes a lot. [While this fixes problem, I really hope someone out there has a better solution to the problem with this game. "Thank you" in advance.] Last edited by Lynn; 03-17-2009 at 08:36 AM. Dracula 2
I also recently installed Dracula 2 = Dracula: The Last Sanctuary on Vista and got it to work. (It was much easier than Dracula 1 = Dracula: Resurrection!)
1. Installed normallly letting installer put files wherever it wanted. 2. R-clicked on game's *.exe and choose compatability mode: Win98/ME |

Riddle of the Sphinx & Vista
"Riddle of the Sphinx"
1. I installed the game to: c:\Users\<username>\Games (May not need to put it here though. Putting games here gives you elevated permissions. Sorry I didn't check to see if it would work wtih a "normal install" by letting the game put it's files wherever it wants.) 2. I installed the Quick Time that came on the CD as I didn't have a more recent version of Quick Time. 3. Using Control Panel, I set this version of Quick Time. Choose "Video Settings" and [unchecked] direct draw. 4. Compatability Mode = Win98/Me (-or- WinXP) [check] Disable themes [check] Disable desktop [check] Run in 640 x 480 [check] Run as admininstrator ((Clues found on tapes at beginning. Putting them here as I had problems running tape recorder in tent. : Tape #3 > Add day number, plus number of doves plus number of pigeons. Artifact Tape > Add number of young bulls to 5 and subtract number of male goats. Tape #1> Number of years minus 30 Translation Tape> Gil says don't touch 6 tablets shown on R side of translation scroll as those tablets are cursed. )) Last edited by Lynn; 03-17-2009 at 09:05 AM. Traitors Gate & Vista
Installed "Traitors Gate".
1. Installed game to: c:\Users\<username>\Games (May not need to do this. Did so for elevated permissions. Sorry didn't test letting game do a "normal install" whereby it puts it's game files wherever it wants.) 2. I didn't install any of the versions of Quick Time that were on the CD. Game worked just fine without them. |

Odyssey: Search for Ulysses & Vista
Recently installed and got this game to work:
"Odyssey: The Search for Ulysses" (Another favorite of mine as it feels like one is in a story book-like setting. Graphics are gorgeous in places.) How: 1. Did a normal install letting the game put the files where it wanted. 2. Used "odyssee.7z" (zipped file) to replace game's "odyssee.exe", Confirming whenever prompted by Vista. (Got "odyssee.7z" at: www.fileden.com/files/2006/6/7/5504/odyssee.7z ) [--------------------------To hex edit the "odyssee.exe" instead of using "odyssee.7z": Start at Address: 003626F5 Change: A9 00 00 00 02 74 To: 25 FF FF FF 3F EB Save and use to replace game's "odyssee.exe" ------------------------------------------------------------] 3. My character was not present at the screen, so as game's directions said to do: Main Menu -> Video Settings -> Disable Hardware Acceleration -> (Use snake symbol to go back to Main Menu.) 4. Then game was too laggy so I tweaked NVidia's settings for "odyssee.exe" as follows: (Results = Better but a wee bit laggy in some areas of game.) Antiscoptic Filtering = OFF Antialiasing - Gamma = OFF Antialiasing - Mode = OFF Conformant Texture Clamp = OFF Force mipmaps = Bilinear Texture Filtering - Antiscoptic = OFF Texture Filtering - Quality = HIGH PERFORMANCE Vertical Sync = FORCE OFF Last edited by Lynn; 03-28-2009 at 11:46 AM. "Riddle of the Sphinx 2" ("The Omega Stone")
I installed to: CUsers\<username>\Games (May not need to do this. Sorry, didn't check to see if it would play well with a normal install.) (No tweaking needed though. YEAH!!) EDIT: Sorry didn't have time to put in the adjustments needed for NVidia (for "The Omega Stone" -- aka "Riddle of the Sphinx 2"). They are: Antiscoptic Filtering = OFF Antialiasing - Gamma = OFF Antialiasing - Mode = OFF Conformant Text. Clamp. = OFF Force mipmaps = Bilinear Texture Filtering - Antiscoptic = OFF Texture Filtering - Quality = PERFORMANCE Vertical Sync = FORCE OFF Last edited by Dale Baldwin; 03-30-2009 at 08:02 PM. ok i got runaway 2 to work but you need a couple of savegames as there are a couple of places that cause a crash. you have to turn the resolution right the way down to get it to work.
Moment of silence works ut oftern crashes. the mystery of the druids works. all agatha christie games works. up to evil under the sun i have tried. grim fandango worked. simon 1, 2 and 4 worked absolutly striaght out of the box. make sure simon 1 and 2 are the xp compat versions. the lucasarts oldies collection also works. lure of the temptress works - downloaded It all depends on the version of windows as im running 32 bit but also on the graphics card, my rubbish intel chip likes old games but my other vista nvidia 9800 doesnt. The solution to everyones prolems would be to have an external hard drive that the computer boots from when its connected that has xp on. That way when vista plays up and you have to reinstall you dont lose all your game saves. lol

This is an old thread but I just want to say thanks to all you guys. I've been able to get these Dreamcatcher games to work for the most part on windows 7.
Thanks to Lynn for the hexedit info for Odyssey. I googled for win7 Odyssey help and found this thread. Love google and I'm glad I found this place. (1st post!) |
