(Actually when I first read this I read it as fov I always imagined she'd saunter in a lady-like manner but if you say she scuttles........ )

There was no fox. It was a reference to Mary, the telepathic fox from "Reality-on-the-Norm". I believe it was in one of the games in the "Kittens" Triology (?). To be exact, I think it was in "Cabbages and Kings", right at the beginning, when Melt talks to Mary in the garden. Mary at one point says: "This fox scuttles." (I think the term normally associated with foxes is "skulk").
It might also be that she said this in the conversation in the forest in "Kittens and Cacti", where you also talk about the Were-Crow.
