You guys are gonna have to send me a field report since I won't be able to get one til next spring at least. I'm a little relieved, actually, that I'm not getting one right now. There don't seem to be any games I'm drooling over, particularly since Oblivion has been pushed back several months (it was to be my launch title). And the roster of launch titles don't seem that exciting for me. At this point it seems the hype is focused on being among the first to have a 360, just like before with other consoles.

Temps has a point.
No console thus far has ever had a decent launch setup. However, the Xbox360 DOES have PGR, COD2 and Kameo. PDZ sounds like it could be merely OK though.

Out of the 18 launch titles, 10 are sports/driving games, there are no RPG's in the mix, no platformers, no fighting games. If DOA 4 and Oblivion where in the mix, it would have definitely covered most bases. Everyone is saying that there is no killer app at launch, like Halo for the original XBOX. I really like the future exclusive games in the pipeline though, especially the Bioware games and Gears of War.

Why do you need a killer app for it to be a good launch. Instead of one good game and a bunch of suck ass games, there are more good games, and not just one that kills them all.
Also, you're wrong about exclusives. It's also about on which system does it play best on. You can either play Oblivion on your 17 - 19 inch monitor or you can play it on your 30 inch widescreen HDTV with 5.1 surround sound. Which would you rather? |

It really depends on the game. I'd rather play Call of Duty 2 or Quake 4 (which I don't even like) on my 21 inch monitor, because I prefer keyboard/mouse to gamepad for First person shooters. A game like Kameo or PGR 3 are definitely better on a console.

Wow, DC had 1 great and 3 good games on it's US launch list, I didn't know it had that good games immediately at launch...
Such a shame that it didn't sell enough.

Based on those lists, I think it's pretty clear that the Xbox 360 has a pretty damn good lineup.

Lucien, when we got out Xbox, it was Thanksgiving week, 2001. We got some games you don't have listed there. The dates are what's listed at Gamespot as release dates. Not that all of these were great titles, but they were "launch" titles for the Xbox.
Amped 11/19/01 Oddworld, Munch's Oddysee 11/6/01 Azurik 11/25/01 Tony Hawk 2X 11/14/01 Fuzion Frenzy 11/14/01 As well as Halo, DOA3, Mad Dash Racing Lynsie

I copied the page from a Wiki entry.
It's possible it is wrong. Or maybe those games came out the same week as "launch" , but not necessarily on the day of release.

Eh, I remember how I planned getting a 360 at launch. Now I know I probably won't get it for at least another year (might get Revolution first), I'm saving my money for Psychonauts, some books, comics and a PS2.

Wasn't Splinter Cell also a launch title for Xbox?
