I'm so damn thoroughly engrossed in the novel! It's exquisite. It's most likely that I'm visualizing it all through my artist and writer's mind, but the still, the images and the scenes are impressively vivid, inching towards lucid. Every now and then I have to stop to savour all those dapples of silk, patterns, sounds, and textures in my mind. Even the ugliness and repulsiveness of some of the characters and of the streets and back alleys of Gion are worth relishing. And even though I knew it was coming, I cried when I found out about Chiyo-chan's family. In some ways this story feels like The Shawshank Redemption meets Cinderella, in a kimono. Awesome reading!

I knew it when I first saw the trailers of "Geisha" that there was some "Hollywood-ising"about being a hooker in this film. Darn you Hollywood!
