That screenshot is SO familiar, but I am drawing a complete blank at the moment as to what game it is from. I think I will be angry at myself when I find out what it is...

A few clues...
- It's not a Sierra game - As the video artifacts may suggest, it is an old 8-bit Apple ][ game. - As far as I know, it was the first adventure game with animation, sound effects and timed puzzles. |

I love the look of that pixelation - it is much nicer looking than some of the later PC games. I don't like what they did with the print though.

That isn't a design element, the artifacting is due to the way the Apple II color graphics work. Like most 8-bit machines, the graphics modes have distinct limitations, although the Apple's are more noticeable than most, even when the graphics are designed around them. The purple and green pixels mixed in with the white are a dead giveaway that it's either an Apple II you're seeing, or a port from the Apple with the same graphics brought over.
By the way, where are those pictures from? I've had an awful time finding an Apple II emulator with a diaplay that looks right, with the proper colors and blurring. ApplePC does it perfectly, but unfortunately it doesn't calibrate speed automatically, and it's a bit of a pain typing in waitstate figures until it seems to look right for every machine, and still never knowing how close it really is. AppleWin works with Windows, and auto-calibrates, but the screen on it looks awful. Same with the GS emulators. Technically, I suppose they're spot on as far as the internals go, but not for the actual experience. |

The emulator in question is Apple-In-PC. It produces the most faithful emulation on the Windows platform that I've seen. Unfortunately it has no home page and is rather difficult to track down. You can find it here (temporarily). KEGS (for GS emulation) is pretty close to perfect when it comes to emulating the original GS; however, 8-bit graphics will always look a bit off on it, as the GS used an RGB display rather than the //e/c/+'s composite output. On the gripping hand, KEGS seems to have the best 8-bit sound emulation of the bunch, so I guess it depends what's more important to you. The AppleWin guys seem to be getting interested in supporting the half-pixle shifts, which, if properly implimented will result in a lot more realistic image...
