SEGA has announced a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, giving those who get chosen an early chance to jump behind the wheel and sample its online multiplayer modes.

Applications for the test are open now and will remain available until August 31, 2026. If you’re successful, you’ll then be able to play from September 11 at 1 AM BST until September 13 at 1 AM BST.

The closed network test will be available across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, and Steam, with cross-play supported between each platform, so you should own at least one of these.

Although Crazy Taxi: World Tour will feature single-player and story content at launch, the network test is focused entirely on multiplayer. You will be able to try two modes, Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, through either Ranked Matches or customisable private lobbies.

Pickup Race throws in up to six players, competing to collect and deliver as many passengers as possible before time runs out. Naturally, the person who earns the most crazy money walks away with the win.

Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, meanwhile, splits six players into two teams of three, although SEGA has yet to provide a full breakdown of exactly how the cops and taxi drivers will battle it out.

The test will include two maps, four playable characters, and six cars, with several vehicle tune-up options also available.

In terms of what SEGA is getting from the test, the company plans to use it to evaluate the stability and performance of the game’s online multiplayer functionality ahead of its full release in 2027.

Alongside the network test announcement, SEGA released a new trailer showcasing the West Coast map, which is a location that looks to emulate the sun-soaked streets associated with the original Crazy Taxi.

Real-world businesses are returning as well. The West Coast map will feature recognisable storefronts and destinations including IHOP and Amoeba Music, with additional regional shops set to appear across the game’s remaining locations.
