Spider-Man 2 adds two new suits, and you don’t need to pay to get them
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received another wardrobe expansion, with two new Peter Parker suits now available through the game’s latest free update.
Update 1.005.000 throws in the Fresh Start Suit alongside a new outfit inspired by Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Both costumes are available to everyone who downloads the update, meaning there are no pre-orders, special editions, or additional purchases standing between you and Peter’s latest looks.
The Fresh Start Suit is based on the costume worn by Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in cinemas on July 31. What’s great about this one is that it has the more traditional red-and-blue appearance briefly seen at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, albeit with some changes made for Peter’s next adventure.
Meanwhile, the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls Suit brings the stylised design of Arc System Works’ upcoming 4v4 fighting game into Insomniac’s version of New York City. Spider-Man is one of the 20 characters included in Tōkon’s launch roster, with the full game set to release for PS5 and PC on August 6.
Something to note about all of this is that there seems to be little crossover confusion worth clearing up. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls features its own costume inspired by Insomniac’s Advanced Suit 2.0 as part of the fighting game’s Ultimate Edition. However, the Tōkon-inspired suit being added to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as previously alluded to, is completely free.
Alongside the two suits, update 1.005.000 adds Enhanced PSSR support for PS5 Pro, providing improved image reconstruction on Sony’s upgraded console. A new Power Saver mode has also been introduced across PS5 systems.
It may not be a story expansion or additional content that you might have hoped for, but free suits are free suits at the end of the day, so can’t really be turning your nose up at that.
