Kingdom Hearts 4 will “100%” be releasing in 2027

Kingdom Hearts 4 has finally been given a late 2027 release window, and if you’re already expecting the classic video game delay announcement, Tetsuya Nomura wants you to think again.

Square Enix confirmed during D23 2026 that the long-awaited sequel will arrive in late 2027, more than five years after Kingdom Hearts 4 was originally announced. However, given the amount of time we have all already spent waiting, you’ve probably questioned whether that window would actually stick, especially this day in age.

According to both co-director Tai Yasue and series creator Tetsuya Nomura, though, it absolutely will.

No delays for Kingdom Hearts 4

Speaking during a Kingdom Hearts panel at D23, Nomura addressed speculation that Kingdom Hearts 4 could slip beyond its newly announced window, stating: “I just wanted to set the record straight – that is not happening.”

He added that he hopes fans look forward to the game arriving in 2027, while also revealing that its marketing campaign is only just getting started.

Co-director Tai Yasue went even further when discussing the state of development, reportedly describing the chances of hitting the release window as “100%” rather than 80% or 90%. In other words, Square Enix appears very confident that Sora won’t be slipping into 2028.

The reassurance follows a pretty substantial showing for Kingdom Hearts 4 at D23. A new four-minute trailer offered another look at Quadratum and confirmed a world based on Pixar’s Coco, with Sora venturing into the Land of the Dead alongside Miguel.

The footage also showed Donald and Goofy continuing their search for Sora, while King Mickey appeared in a distinctive storybook-style sequence. Kingdom Hearts 4 will kick off the new Lost Master Arc following the conclusion of the Dark Seeker Saga in Kingdom Hearts 3.

There’s still no exact release date beyond late 2027, but after years of waiting for substantial Kingdom Hearts 4 news, Square Enix isn’t leaving much room for doubt this time.
