The Divine Comedy review

Written by Steve Brown

The Good:

  • Stylish panoramic backgrounds
  • Two forms of built-in hint system
  • Musical score well suited to the setting

The Bad:

  • Extremely linear story progression still requires extensive backtracking
  • Often feels like a series of lectures rather than a game
3 out of 5 stars

Our Verdict: Whilst an impressive artistic achievement, The Divine Comedy often feels too much ‘the book’ and not enough ‘the game’.

Note: Though graded as a standalone adventure, The Divine Comedy is one of three installments bundled together in the Enter the Story trilogy.

No one can accuse Chris Tolworthy of lacking ambition. Having covered Victor Hugo’s classic novel Enter the Story purchase. For those with more conventional views of adventure gaming, however, the plodding nature of the subject matter and the confining design issues may make this one journey to leave untraveled.
