I've actually found the album right this minute after searching for it for days!
Its just called "Violent Femmes" so I'm assuming its their debut album?

I've just been looking through previous posts and saw your comment about The Smashing Pumpkins - you said you were wanting something a bit lighter, but I don't see how "Siames Dream" can be seen as light :crazy:

With songs like Mayonaise, Geek USA, Disarm and Spaceboy I really don't see this as a light album :crazy:

Obviously compared to The Downward Spiral it is :D

Sure. I have every Pumpkins album except Gish. About the cover: Lots of screaming during the refrain. It's Poison The Well after all. :) But not representative of their sound... it's not too different from the original except for the screaming. Their latest record "You come before you" might appeal to Deftones people, though PTW are more of a hardcore band.

I've just listened to it, and as a major "Pumpkins" fan I have to say that I am not impressed!

Their interpretation of the song was....well....ok..... :frown: but I just couldn't find any emotion in the song - the original had the emotional impact of Billy Corgan's voice, but this cover was way lacking in my opinion :frown:
If this had been a cover of a well known pop song like "Faith" or "Wuthering Heights" then I think it would have been appreciated a lot more!

Strangely, I have never heard of this band, and I think their decision to cover a popular rock song was a pretty bad idea :D

If they had wanted to cover something, then I feel they should have gone for a pop song which they could have moulded to their own particular style :D

He, he. Yes, there are better cover songs. I still like it, though. There's nothing different from the original but the screaming and some staccato riffing here and there.

Johnny Cash - Hurt (NIN)
Now that's a really great cover song! Coupled with the video clip it's a guaranteed winner.

The Johnny Cash cover of Hurt has to be the very best cover I have ever heard!
When you add that to the video where he is walking round his house and you see picture of his wife who had died previously, you can't help but experience the emotional turmoil He must have been eperiencing :frown:

I thought the NIN version was sad but Johhny Cash totally outstaged Trent Reznor on this one!!!!!


Its just a shame he isn't here to make more great music!!

Who but Johnny Cash could do justice to a Nine Inch Nails song? If I recall correctly, Trent Reznor was very flattered by Johnny's desire to cover the song, and help out on the production.
Has anyone besides me heard Blondie's cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire"? Another awesome cover by a band mostly known for doing their own stuff.
A truly strange cover, but a personal favorite of mine, was Shirley Manson's old band's (Fishbone, maybe?) cover of "Money"...not the Pink Floyd song, the other song of the same name that was also covered by the Beatles.

I've just done a search for it but have come up with no results for "Blondie" and "Ring of Fire" - are you sure they covered it under the name Blondie?

Blondie performed the song live in the movie "Roadie" (1980). A friend of mine who I showed the movie to had the same trouble finding that song online as you did. I think he said he finally found it under "Blondie" and "Live" or something like that, but not under "Ring Of Fire".
The movie "Roadie" is pretty good in and of itself, and was recently released on DVD. It would be worth renting just to watch that performance alone. It also features Roy Orbison, Alice Cooper, Hank Williams Jr., and Little Texas.

The movie "Roadie" doesn't ring any bells though :D

I have to say, that although I am a big Blondie fan ("The Tide is High was the first single I ever bought :D ) I really wasn't looking forward to their cover of "Ring of Fire" :frown:

Well, after listening to the song I was well impressed - its a great song made even better by that amazing Blondie sound :D

I really didn't think I would, but as soon as it started you could tell it was Blondie, and I could pretty much picture Debbie Harry singing it on stage :D

It's a shame it wasn't released as a single - I'm sure it would have done well :D
