Grannies on Wheels trailer reveals yer Nan stealing jam, driving a monster truck
Estonian indie developer Robot Laser Shark has released a gameplay trailer for Grannies on Wheels, a party game where you become a cute little grandma, hop behind the wheel of a monster truck, and battle for jars of jam.
The premise is simple, but wonderfully whacky. Each player begins with jars of jam, which serve as lives. If you ram another gran with your truck, you can knock the jars loose and steal them. The objective? Be the last nan standing.
The game will support up to four players on a shared screen, with each match taking place across arenas that feature your typical physics-based destruction and terrain that changes as vehicles ignore any semblance of traffic law. For solo adventurers, there’s also AI-controlled opponents which mean you can go to battle without the need for additional grannies, too.
Alongside its fuel-guzzling, monster truck combat, Grannies on Wheels will include a selection of mini-games and typical gameplay party modifiers. These range from reversing controls of other grannies, skewing camera angles, and gaping black holes appearing. If this is what the kids call “friendslop”, then count me in.
The game uses a clay-style visual presentation intended to make its characters, trucks and environments resemble a handmade toy set brought to life through a child’s imagination.
“We wanted to create a party game that anyone can understand within seconds,” said Robot Laser Shark game designer Andri Allas. “You drive, you jump, you hit your friends, and you steal their jam. It is a simple and completely reasonable conflict-resolution system.”
Well Andri, I think you’ve managed just that. I can only imagine what Christmas at the Allas household was like back in the day.
Grannies on Wheels is planned for release on Steam in 2027 and is available to wishlist now. An exact release date and price have not been announced.
