Loretta: A Noir-Inspired Thriller

Written by Ivo Teel -

Indie developer Yakov Butuzov and publisher DANGEN Entertainment have announced the upcoming release of their psychological thriller Loretta on PC platforms. Set to launch on February 16th, the game is a 2D point-and-click adventure that takes place in small-town America during the 1940s. Players take on the titular character Loretta's role as she navigates a web of betrayal, infidelity, and her descent into depravity.

The game is split into multiple chapters that jump back and forth in time, providing context and revealing the background of Loretta's degradation. Players will make decisions and interact with objects, ultimately determining the level of Loretta's involvement in a grisly plan for revenge. Conceptually inspired by film noir and the works of Alfred Hitchcock and other writers, the game features branching paths, multiple endings, and puzzles to uncover Loretta's past.

Loretta is a story without heroes, and players will be forced to make difficult decisions that will shape the story's outcome. The developer Yakov Butuzov said, "Creating a complex character, who, despite her evil actions, would evoke sympathy and understanding, if not forgiveness, was one of the main challenges in making Loretta." The game is available to wishlist on Steam, and the developers have announced plans for a console release at a later date.
