Good news: Little Misfortune on the way

Written by Jack Allin -

Killmonday Games knows a bit about offbeat stories told from a child's perspective, having successfully debuted in 2015 with the impressive Fran Bow. Now the two-person indie team is returning to that same universe with a new interactive story called Little Misfortune.

While "Misfortune" might seem like an ill-fated thing to call a child, it is indeed the name of the game's heroine. Eight-year-old Misfortune Ramirez Hernandez is an imaginative girl who "seeks the prize of Eternal Happiness, as a gift to her Mommy." Guided by her "new friend, Mr. Voice, they venture into the woods, where mysteries are unraveled and a little bit of bad luck unfolds."

That's all that's been revealed about the story so far, and we know even less about the gameplay. Described as "an interactive story, focused on exploration and characters, both sweet and dark, where your choices have consequences," it's not clear as yet whether puzzles will play a central part, but along the way players are promised the chance to "pet a doggy, a fishy, a wolfie, the Kraken, the kitty and the foxy," as well as fall in love, commit petty crimes, and "visit a pet cemetery with a shovel." It's also clear, based on the first screenshots released, that the game will feature the same kind of stylish hand-painted artwork as its predecessor.

There is currently no firm target release date for Little Misfortune, but the developer's plan is to "hopefully" launch sometime in "early /middle 2019." To follow the game's progress in the meantime, you can visit the official website to learn more.
