All of a sudden it seems like psychonauts 2 is destined to happen. Double fine has steadily built popularity with games like costume quest/stacking/sesame street.
And this kickstarter publicity is going to make investors more interested in the company.

Not to be the downer here, but wasn't the original Psychonauts, as great and critically acclaimed as it is, a huge financial bust? Though they manage to get Notch's name behind it, I'm sure it'll create much more exposure.

You want to know a game that should of went somewhere but didnt? Insecticide. Only episode 1 was released and sadly was canceled due to the studio being bought out. :/

Not much of a secret that. It was (I'm not sure (like, literally not sure, I haven't much idea how much it did and should've sold) about huge, but a bust nevertheless). However, recently it has gotten a lot of publicity with all sorts of sales (like on Steam and such) and new platforms etc., and I'd wager that the amount of people who have the game has grown considerably, maybe even multiplied. Not to mention the people who maybe don't own the game, but have heard positive things about it (and so could be prospective buyers, were the game marketed decently).
