Dragon Age:Origins

WARNING - MIGHT CONTAIN SPILERS

There's a new trailer for Dragon Age: Origins up at gametrailers.com

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3...4#comments_top

It is showing a Grey Warden saying things like 'in peace, vigilance, in war victory'

imisssunwell 05-29-2009 08:07 AM

can't wait for this game

SnorkleCat 06-01-2009 09:42 AM

Meh. I think I'll pass. it looks like they've gone in a direction I don't really care for to be honest.

aries323 06-17-2009 10:10 AM

System requirements for Dragon Age: Origins have been announced

http://daforums.bioware.com/viewtopi...2449&forum=135.

Pretty steep.... and you'll need at least 20GB of free HDD space to install the game...

Intrepid Homoludens 06-17-2009 02:43 PM

Not for me. I'll grab the X360 version. I know what I'm missing: constantly having a cow over whether my system can even run the game, spending more money for hardware upgrades, etc.

Nice. Pretty low requirements. It's the advantage of games built first for PC, although the required HDD space is a bit too much. Anyway, i'm looking forward to the game, it's a pitty we PC gamers have to wait for the console versions to be finished, the PC version is already finished, but oh well, that's life.

After having to look at fugly human characters in Oblivion for at least 100 hours, I SERIOUSLY look forward to Dragon Age.

I trust most of you have already viewed these, but for those who still hadn't...

Narrated in-game walkthrough part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4

Release date's 3 November for all platforms. Cannot wait, and I still hadn't completed Fallout 3! http://planetsmilies.net/kaos-animal...miley-6110.gif

booB 09-17-2009 06:35 AM

I'm sick of all the previews. I wish they'd just RELEASE the damn thing already, instead of pushing it back. I'm starting to lose interest.

Intrepid Homoludens 09-19-2009 01:59 AM

LOL!

I don't actually mind it being launched first week of November. Right now my plate is already beyond full. I expect to finish Batman: Arkham Asylum over the weekend, then I need to get back into Splinter Cell: DA. I also just started Wet, but I also have several other games I hadn't picked up to play in months, including Fallout 3.

Dragon Age and Left 4 Dead 2 are the two titles I'll get in November, and I'm set up for the rest of the year. I plan to put all other games aside until I'm done with the main storyline in Dragon Age, and L4D2 will be primarily for Saturdays when I play online with friends.

Crunchy in milk 09-19-2009 10:55 AM

I would have thought Borderlands and Alpha Protocol on your radar, which come out in October...

I can seriously see myself skipping Dragon Age till next year. I haven't seen any indication of surprises from it and I can only stomach so many games that takes themselves too seriously at once.

SoccerDude28 09-19-2009 09:08 PM

Shame on you guys for not mentioning Brutal Legend :pan: Rocktober can't come fast enough.

My game list for the next couple of months is quite hefty: Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands ? (waiting for reviews), Alpha Protocol (maybe), Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, and of course the one and only Brutal Legend.

Crunchy in milk 09-20-2009 02:32 AM

Don't forget Torchlight (also in October). Should be a nice tide-me-over till Diablo 3 harvests the souls of 90% of the worlds gamers. I really like the art style they went with and its nice to see a return of the pets from their FATE origins. Its getting good PAX previews even when played right along side Diablo 3!

Niko 09-20-2009 06:44 AM

I am looking forward to Dragon Age, Nice link Intrepid, gonna flick through those :)

I am very excited about all the new games on the way, Dragon age, Risen, Arcania a gothic tale (gothic4), Alpha protocol, Operation FP Dragon rising, Alan Wake, Mafia 2, Splinter cell conviction & Deus Ex 3 next year, Allot of good games to look forward too :9~

Edit: I had to stop watching the youtube clips, i like the game to be a suprise.

There's a review for DA: Origins up at gameinformer.com

http://gameinformer.com/games/dragon...05/review.aspx

THe reviewer like the game a lot :)

Just thought I let you know.

Intrepid Homoludens 10-05-2009 02:32 PM

Thank you. I pre-ordered it last week along with the Prima strategy guide.

Lucien21 10-05-2009 07:13 PM

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/dr...-creator-dated

You can download the character creator next week and have your character ready for launch day.

Crunchy in milk 10-09-2009 12:25 AM

Well I pre-ordered this (paid in full), so much for my haughty sensibilities and remaining shred of will power. Roll on Nov.3.

aries323 10-09-2009 06:44 AM

In this thread at Bioware forums you can learn about the new Bioware flash game, Dragon Age: Journeys to be played in your browser.

http://daforums.bioware.com/forums/v...forum=135&sp=0

Here's the link to the flash site:

http://www.dragonagejourneys.com/

You have to make an account with EA apparently...

Crunchy in milk 10-10-2009 04:41 AM

It doesn't look worth the spam you're asking for by signing up.
I hate EA enough as it is.

*cross fingers* there hopefully be no need for an email address to download the character editor.

Seriously cinematic Sacred Ashes trailer.

Only 3 weeks left. :9~

Anyone playing with the character creator/social site?

The 'in game' upload of your character data/profile picture is a little flaky still and there's issues with editing existing characters in the editor after you saved them (it screws up the preset). I've uploaded a couple of pics to an album for now. There's already something like 6000 characters uploaded and 4000 albums to trawl though site-wide.

Here's my album:
http://social.bioware.com/894/albums/4807

AndreaDraco83 10-14-2009 02:40 AM

I'm downloading the character creator right now! :)

Intrepid Homoludens 10-14-2009 05:35 PM

http://planetsmilies.net/kaos-not-ta...miley-4750.gif I should NOT have watched this: The Stone Prisoner

He comes as a permanent party member with every launch copy of the game. I love him! Looks to be both our tank and comic relief during our various Ferelden romps. Poor chicken....LAWL!

Specifically he and his story come free with the launch copy of the game. Subsequent copies don't have him and you'll have to pay to download him and his story.

Crunchy in milk 10-14-2009 07:51 PM

Just a quick note on new game content, they have a promo related to the social site and the character creator apparently. The account is separate from your regular bioware forums identity. I tried to migrate stuff across but I think I'll wait till its more stable.

Anyway~ what I wanted to say is that if you upload character(s) from the character creator to your social site profile, when you get the full game and you log in from it with the same social site identity you used for the character creator, apparently you get another custom (lucky) ring in your inventory. Bit of a thank you for helping beta test the site and character creator.

AndreaDraco83 10-15-2009 02:23 AM

And the character creator is a really powerful tool. I've already created six or seven characters and there are no two similar looks in the game. Awesome! ;)

Maquisard 10-15-2009 03:44 PM

I thought I was making my perfect woman until I realized she looked an awful lot like Julia Roberts.

Roper Klacks 10-15-2009 04:14 PM

Seems like the PC version will be the only with the option to choose a classic isometric camera view like Baldur's Gate. Consoles will be limited to a 3rd person perspective.

Fine with me. 3rd person's perfect on my X360 and large HDTV.

Crunchy in milk 10-15-2009 07:59 PM

I'm keen to see what characters made with the console version will look like. Heck I'm keen to see a gameplay video of it running on a console.

The pc character creator is a little hamstrung by bugs right now. Some of the sliders are very sensitive and I wonder how that'll translate to a controller setup.

Most basic edits come out rather generic/similar though, seems like there's very little real variation you can achieve beyond accessories such as a beard or a tattoo or the colour of the eyes. That said, the result is 'beautiful' people everywhere. It makes it hard for celebrity lookalikes as was popular in Mass Effect, and self portraits if you're not a rugged square jawed hero. The bloke at the end is actually based off my travel pass photo. I saw an awesome Barack Obama lookalike though, take from that what you will.

I, too have been dabbling in creating a character for me to play in DA: Origins via the Charactor Creator Bioware has made. Real nice touch, I find. Even nice it is that we actually get an item, a lucky ring, for our troubles. Rewarding people is always good :)

On a different on the Bioware forums someone mentioned that Ron Burke from Gaming Trend's has had a hands-on-experience with Dragon Age: Origins. (llinks below - spoilers ahoy, though).

Rom Burke mentions, n the second part of the hands-on preview (link # 2 found down below) that he, too, find the marketing of this game, very annoying and stupid. And that the game isn't about what the marketing says it is. And that fights with dragons can take up to 20 minutes; you'll die a lot if you don't know what you're doing.

You can read more about his first-hand experiences with DA: Origins here:

http://www.gamingtrend.com/Articles/….php?artID=498 (part 1)

and here:

http://www.gamingtrend.com/Articles/….php?artID=503 (part 2)

Mild spoilers in both of the articles, though. The spoilers in the articles are nothing new to those of us who have been following Dragon Age: Origins for a (very) long time. He does mention, though, that after 10.5 hours of playing, he only did play 16% of the game...

He mentions that you can both control the characters via point and click on via the wsad-controls on your keyboard. In the second article, there's a fairly lengthy (but good) description of the Elven Mage origin. This part of the preview is written in the first person style, so it feels like we're been there ourselves :)

The game specs state you need a Core 2 1.4 Ghz or equivalent cpu. I have a Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz. Would that be considered equivalent? I would really like to get this game, but my cpu doesn't seem to be up to it.:\ What do you think?

I'm planning on getting a new system, but that is some months away.:frusty:

Edit: Nevermind. I won't be buying this game till I can meet the recommended specs. :frown:

Methinks if you plan on using your computer to play video games, you should just break down and go dual core. You won't be able to play many games that are coming out these days on a single core.

Lucien21 10-24-2009 12:51 AM

I read a superb review of this in PC Gamer that was really glowing about the game.

However I think a lot of people will go into this game thinking that it is like Mass Effect or KoTOR and are going to be seriouls y shocked. This isn't a lite-RPG it is a full on direct descendant of Baldurs Gate with the depth and control or those old serious RPG's. The difficultly level is supposed to be pretty extreme with micromanagement of your characters the only way to win most battles.

I'm looking forward to it.

Mmmm, I doubt it. I bet on easy its a total cakewalk and you really have to up the difficulty to even turn on friendly fire in the console version.

I'm not saying nightmare difficulty won't be a difficult challenge but they're unlikely to avoid catering to the lowest common denominator with the default difficulty gameplay, especially when they've been catering to such with their advertising

Pre-ordered my PC copy yesterday at Gameplay.co.uk for 30€, Hopefully it will arrive in my mail box in the release day. :)

I plan on going Quad-Core. However, I have to save the money to do it. It will take me a while. In the meantime, the price for the game will probably come down. So that will be an advantage.:)

I'm halfway through reading that same review at the moment, and it does sound very good. upto 80 hours of gameplay sounds amazing, not to mention the replay value as different classes. Having read what i have so far, i get the impression the game mechanics of Dragon Age Origons, is similar to that of the Neverwinter Nights 2 game. I liked that game, and i cant wait for this.

It is my understanding that this game is without DRM (well, just a disc check).

Is this still true? Whether or not I buy the game depends on this...

We’re happy to announce that the boxed/retail PC version of Dragon Age: Origins will use only a basic disk check and it will not require online authentication. In other words, the retail PC version of the game won’t require you to go online to authenticate the game for offline play. We have chosen not to use SecuROM in any version of Dragon Age that is distributed by EA or BioWare.
