Completely true.
I'm also completely greedy! :P |
By the way, here's a table of the questions and answers:
http://www.reddit.com/r/tabled/comments/tm5bs/ a few answers/questions are in a wrong place (for example, one question is "Hi Jane") but anyway, that should cover all the Q&As. Probably missing some of those questions only Robert answered but anyway, it should be clearer to read if the reddit page looks too confusing. |
I was looking at the stats on Kicktraq for the other big gaming Kickstarters, and, apart from Republique, they all seem to have made between 15 and 20% of their total on the last three days. Unless Jane Jensen's performs much worse*, $400,000 should be in the bag, and 450,000 is not completely impossible, but still quite unlikely (dammit).
* and I guess it might, with the Tex Murphy Kickstarter launching tomorrow, and many hardcore backers having probably increased their pledges to the max when things were so slow a few weeks ago... |
Only thing that really bothers me is how she says she wants to make 6-8 games a year in the future. I would much prefer it if she focused on making one great game every 1-2 years instead of a bunch of mediocre ones.
|
I wouldn't guess they'll be mediocre ones even if she does make more :P But still, I understand what you mean, rather see less products more polished and with more content than a lot with a bit less budget etc.
Of course, she's probably got so many ideas that she can't focus on just one :D And since she's outsourcing much of the technical stuff, she won't be dividing her resources in such a way as she would if she only worked within her on studio. |

if jane starts outsourcing 6-8 full length games per year, that would make her a major publisher ;)

Aww, sweet message from Raleigh: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mZt9hXFAAE
I'm not sure if it's been discussed on this page (too lazy to look back!), but Jane will be chatting today with several GK2 alumni (video director Will Binder, Dean Erickson, Peter Lucas). She's going to record the conversation and post it for people to listen to. As a big GK2 fangirl, I'm excited - just wish there were video too so I could drool over Von Glower. :9~ |
Wait, I thought it was going to be a video. According to this update at least:

It'll be a conversation with the still shots - but not live video of the chat itself.
|
Oh I see, darn, I thought it was some multi-window-skype-recording deal. Still, it's going to be fun, wonder what the chemistry will be after all these years.
Btw, Piotrek was born something like 30 miles from here :P |
Yeah, I'm a much bigger GK1 fan so I would have loved something from Tim Curry or Mark Hamill or Leah Remini (and Tim Curry was involved in two games, so it would have have been really good to have gotten him in on this in some way) but GK2 has a lot of fans too, so I won't complain...too much. ;)
Plus it seems to be Jane's favourite too, so it makes sense. 400 is looking difficult, but fingers crossed... |
Part I and II of their chat are available to listen to. Part III is yet to be uploaded.
There seems to be a lot of noise in the background, which spoils them a bit... "/ |

Anyway - it's still a fun conversation, and there are some great behind the scenes tidbits. Between the conversation and the photos I think it's a super treat for GK2 fans. I loved hearing Dean and Peter's voices again. At one point when they were trying to figure out what was happening with the audio, Dean said my name and I just about swooned. :9~ Not sure if this part has been posted yet - but Jane makes a comment about how Gabriel is known for his white shirt and blue jeans. Apparently white and blue clothing are off limits when you're using a blue screen! Which is why he ended up with a green shirt and black jeans. That was interesting to me, I never thought about it before... |

id say our chances of 400k are looking good. An end-surge of 25k in one day would be realistic for us, and weve got almost 2 days!
|
Haha, I love when Peter talks about the "steamy bedroom scene" towards the end of the second recording. :9~
Ahem. Just needed to get that out of my system. Carry on. ;) |

Not to jinx it, but almost 15 000 $ gained yesterday, and 8000 needed for 400 000 (actually, not really that much either, because the PayPal payments don't show up in Kickstarter), so looks like I won't have to be surprised :P (I said somewhere along the line that I'll be surprised if we don't reach 400k)

the surge begins :D
juuust about in range of 1 10k backer making 400k. |
Think we'll have any chance at the 450K?
Man I would just love those extra lines of dialogue! |
its not impossible.... never know how many 5 or 10k backers could jump in at the end...
Right now it looks like we're headed for aound 410k-ish. |
Wow, can't believe it's (finally) the last day. This feels like it's been going on for an eternity. :P
A couple of new high-profile articles to close out the campaign: http://blog.games.com/2012/05/17/jan...y-male-protag/ http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2012/0...s-kickstarter/ http://www.wired.com/geekmom/2012/05/kickstart-moebius/ (nothing from Wired this whole time and then two nods on the same day!) Also Jane and Robert will be online tomorrow morning, posting in a countdown thread on the Pinkerton Road forums as the last minutes tick by. :D Details are on the latest Kickstarter update. |
Wow, it's almost $400.000!
|
It's over $400,000 now! $404,009!! Now for the $450,000$!!! Woohoooo!!!! :P
(I'm really glad we're reaching these high goals because we're attracting many new backers now!) |
2013 is going to be a very good year, isn't it? :D
|
I just pledged 5$ more. I wish I had a job or something so I could pledge 125$ but will have to do with the 50 tier. If everyone squeezed a bit more still we might reach 450k.
|
I sleep in late, then wake up to find the final surge has pushed it all the way to $422k, that's pretty amazing. Still an hour to go as well. :)
|
Well, that's it. Over $440,000 (including the Paypal pledges). That may not be as much as DFA, or even Larry, but that's certainly more than (I think) any of us would have expected 3 weeks ago when the project was struggling badly. Yay! And it's really in large part thanks to Jane Jensen, who has been absolutely fantastic throughout.
I don't know how good the two games will turn out to be (I doubt they'll be worth the irrational amount of money I paid for them), but really what has made the whole thing worth it for me has been Jane Jensen's passion. Of all the Sierra writers, she was always the most mysterious to me. I mean, in the Sierra days, the spotlight was mostly on Roberta Williams (I hear that's because she was sleeping with the boss), and since then, most other Sierra designers have given zillions of interviews or maintained an on-line presence — but Jane Jensen has mostly kept quiet, and whenever she would give interviews she would seem very guarded. I think that's just her nature (she's also mentioned how much she hates being on camera). What's impressive here is that she's been willing to force that nature, not only to give something like a hundred interviews, but also to constantly interact with the community by reading messages and replying to them, taking up suggestions, constantly trying to make the Kickstarter better, and making 31(!) Kickstarter updates. And the best about all of this, is that I think she's come to enjoy it in the end. That's the best thing about Kickstarter. It's made me not just want to get the two new games, but to also really care about Jane Jensen and to passionately want her to succeed with her new studio — because she's awesome and she deserves to succeed. Which in turn makes me all the more unhappy about the current excessive concentration of gaming Kickstarters, as it makes it impossible to give each project the money and the passion that it might deserve. (Oh well, I guess there's still about a month to get my batteries — and my wallet! — recharged for Tex Murphy...) |
