Not Les Manley: Lost in LA. It is a couple of years later (or maybe just one), and from a much more mainstream publisher.

The protagonist is just about the opposite of Lula. She is just not that kind of girl!, as she might tell you. In fact, if you try to get her to eat a corned beef sandwich (which you can try), you will learn that she is even a vegetarian. She encounters a few people who are not nearly as abstemious as she is, though.
