Have you actually read the
Bone comics. They are a lot lighter reading and I haven't found anyone who hasn't enjoyed them from my age to my youngest.
Also if you want to find her some very in heavy reading and you can find them,
Puma Blues were written in the 80's and I bet she would get an intellectual kick out of them, or at least a nostalgic one.
