I'm working on a toolkit (http://www.CircumReality.com) that meets some of your needs:

- It's hybrid text and graphics, using text-to-speech.

- As an experienced programmer you'll have no problem. Your 5-year old would need you at the keyboard to translate english into code, to run the IDE, and the 3D world modeller.
