Yes, they shut them off. Safety regulations are very strict. I had to wear a harness, and when on the roof you're connected to the railing on both sides.

I didn't know you could walk on the roof either. I was also surprised how much room there is inside the nacelle. You can walk up straight in these things! There's a ladder AND a lift in the "pole" to take you up.
