The thing I love is that the vibrato you most commonly hear from old-fashioned opera singers is a result of them having to project their voice throughout an entire theatre above an orchestra. Miss Church's vibrato is added, given that she uses a microphone, purely because that's what opera is supposed to sound like (I happen to hate warbly singing, but hey!).

I always thought that vibrato was something that developed naturally as a result of singing a lot and building up the strength of your voice. And whilst it can be used to produce a rich tone, I do wonder why anyone ever feels the need to deliberately add it.
