I can not stand nettalk (or whatever it is called), or Leet. I'm alright with "lol" - I use it myself sometimes.
What concerns me is the fact that netspeak is not only used on the Internet these days. On tests like the IGCSE, some people write "u" instead of "you", and "2" instead of "to/too".
I think people should make a clear distinction between writing on the Internet, and writing a letter in real life.
Also, there is a difference between writing things in a forum, where you have a time to think about your what you want to say, and to write out your words.
In chat rooms, abbreviations make sense, in forums, they don't.
