Most Curious Unobtainable WoW Mounts and How to Get Them

Since the game launch in 2004, Blizzard has added an impressive array of friendly beasts, strong enough to transport you. The category includes horses, dragons, or even ancient creatures that only bend to you after a hard questline. Many have joined the category of unobtainable WoW mounts due to the end of respective promotions and time limits for raids, new updates, or whatever.

If you wonder what they look like and how you could regularly unlock them, the following guide from Frostyboost.com is going to help you find out. You will also learn how to get these seemingly unobtainable animal friends today. Start with a comprehensive overview, composed subjectively, reflecting just one viewpoint out of many.

Types of Retired Beasts

While not all unavailable rare mounts from the following categories are on the list, they are often categorized as follows:

Raid & Dungeon

Azeroth has been constantly shaken by numerous cataclysms, from wars to the plagues of ancient monsters threatening all living things. Often it leads to new temporary raids and dungeons carrying various rewards. These include animal friends who would join the player collections. With time, they have also joined the category of unobtainable and TCG mounts, which earned them high prestige and status.

PVP Loot

Some of them went to those who defeat everyone in PvP. Since the Burning Crusade, Blizzard has been adding new PvP rewards. Of course, with each new season, access to the old ones is closed, so only the best users have them. In the earlier updates, you needed to be in the top 0.5% of 3v3 Arena players for the WoW Gladiator Achievement.

Recently, for Retail WoW, the criteria have been simplified: players must achieve a 2400+ rating in the 3v3 bracket and secure at least 50 victories above this rating within the season. However, in WoW Classic, the requirement remains to place in the top 0.5% of the leaderboard to claim the Gladiator title, awarded two weeks after the season ends.

The title of Rank 1 Gladiator is awarded similarly in both Retail and Classic versions of the game. You must be in the top 0.1% leaderboard and receive this title after two weeks. Whatever rare mounts or gladiator titles you want, Frostyboost might help with its WoW Gladiator boost service.

Discontinued Promotion

From time to time, Blizzard launches new promotions to support their products or the development of World of Warcraft itself. Users are typically encouraged to invite their friends, play Blizzard games, attend real-life events, and perform different activities to add exclusive horses, tigers, dragons, and others to their collection.

Other

This category includes animal friends you may have gotten through a donation in the Bnet store, referring a friend, or due to a bug. Some were added to the game by mistake, but Blizzard did not remove them from user inventories. Others got additional redesigned versions. These include the original Epic ones. Nevertheless, they stand out from the crowded background due to their appearance and rarety.

  1. Amani War Bear

It is a black bear encased in massive armor with different elements, including wooden plates and horns. According to Wowhead, only 2% of accounts own Amani War Bear, which makes it quite rare in the game. Its owners can rightfully show off in front of teammates.

You could obtain it in 2007 when the 2.3.0 The Gods of Zul'Aman' update came out. Users were encouraged to complete the temporary Zul’Aman run within a specific time limit to unlock it as loot. It was removed from the game when The Wrath of The Lich King came out.

  1. Black Qiraji Battle Tank

It’s a beetle with a unique and detailed model, featuring a violet, black, and blue palette. The beetle has sharp pincers, large pointed legs, a rugged carapace, two prominent antennae extending from its head, and glowing eyes. Its unique appearance makes it one of the most curious unobtainable WoW mounts.

It was available during the opening of the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj, a world event in 2006. The players had to fill the War Effort progress bar by contributing their resources to help open the Gates. Completing the bar would start a 5-day countdown and cause all NPCs to bring their materials to where the gates opened.

After five days, users who had obtained the Scepter of The Shifting Sands upon passing a chain of 32 quests could engage in a ten-hour-long war at the Scarab Wall. It was a raid filled with nine bosses and countless mobs, mechanics, and rewards, including the Black Qiraji Battle Tank. Your entire guild had to help you get the resources and finish the raid. Given such a challenge, it is an even more prestigious loot.

  1. Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm

This wyrm has extensive wings and a frightening snout expression with glowing blue eyes. Its body hides under frosty, metallic plates with many blue details suggesting its magical frost power. It is a common feature of all creatures associated with the Scourge or the Icecrown Citadel themes from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

The Frostbrood Proto-Wyrm came out in update 9.2.7 to support the newly released WTLK Classic. You had to fully finish the Zone of Decay as the Death Knight to get access. It was around the time of the Dragonflight expansion announcement, causing many to think the wyrm would be allowed for dragonriding. However, their assumptions did not come true, and it remained just an addition to the collection of flying beasts.

  1. Swift Nether Drake

Its color scheme is purple with gray for armor. It appears to be somewhat grafted onto its body, which makes it look highly protected. The Swift Nether Drake has shining eyes and a row of spikes along its spine and tail, contributing to the overall aesthetic. It was a reward for the best 0.5% of 3v3 Arena players of Season 1.

  1. Jiggleworth Sr.

It looks like something that used to be a tiger with a green spectral body and shining yellow eyes. Its translucent, wraith-like appearance suggests an undead nature, while its skeleton structure is visible beneath the skin. The dark chains that look reins give an eerie expression to Jigglesworth Sr.

Nobody knows how the saddle stays on its back. However, the ghostly body hasn't prevented it from transporting players, starting from patch 9.2.7. It came out along with Fated Raids, a system new to Shadowlands akin to what Blizzard is doing now with Awakened raids. You should have finished all three renewed raids on a Normal mode or above to gain it.

  1. Warlord’s Deathwheel

One of the few in the game, this vehicle looks rugged and impressive. It's a motorcycle frame with the front part decorated by two long horns, suited for the Horde theme. The rear also has numerous spikes, wooden plates, skulls, and metallic parts to match its warlike design.

Warlord's Deathwheel was the winner of Azeroth Choppers, a reality show hosted by Blizzard and American Choppers in the game. To receive it, you needed to enter the account at least once before the deadline of 30 September 2014. Although it’s not the rarest, it’s still an impressive companion.

  1. Cataclysmic Gladiator's Twilight Drake

This one has a dramatic and dark appearance, dominated by purples and blues. Its body is sleek with spiky, regal armor plates, while the wings feature an impressive span. The drake's eyes shine with a fierce light, matching the cosmic and mysterious vibe it creates.

Cataclysmic Gladiator's Twilight Drake and the Swift Drake are just two examples from a broad array of Arena-specific creatures, mostly dragons. wyrms, and drakes. The WoW Mounts Boost service from Frostyboost allows you access to focus on game enjoyment instead of grinding hard-to-get and rare beasts.

  1. Spectral Wind Rider and Spectral Gryphon

These flying friends share a spirit theme. Each of them corresponds to one of the game's two major factions—Horde for the Wind Rider and Alliance for the Gryphon. Both are enveloped in an ethereal blue glow indicating they are not quite alive.

To collect one of them, you had to add either the email or the nickname and realm of your friend and bring their character alive through the Resurrection Scroll. Sadly, it was replaced by the character boost service in 2014, and the Spectral Wind Rider and the Spectral Gryphon became unobtainable.

  1. Grove Warden

Being a flying stag, it features an intricate design, inspired by the natural magic of Azeroth. Its antlers are wide and ornate, glowing with a mystical light. The brown body has numerous green elements, reflecting its deep connection to forest protection. In addition, the stag wears Druidic armor made of gems, stone, and wood.

World of Warcraft users could only receive it upon defeating Archimonde when completing the Hellfire Citadel run on the Heroic tier before the Legion expansion. The standard version of Grove Warden was obtainable in the game between June 2015 and July 2016, later followed by revised versions, such as Grove Defiler.

  1. Uncorrupted Voidwing

Its appearance is reminiscent of a dark void, with purple, black, and blue accents. It has a slender body and extensive wings reminding of the night sky. Its sharp teeth and piercing eyes add to its fierce and otherworldly demeanor. Uncorrupted Voidwing is a symbol of resistance against corruption, once awarded after defeating the Old God N'Zoth in the Heroic mode of the Ny'alotha raid of the Battle for Azeroth.

Ways to Get Unobtainable Creatures Today

These and other beasts attract many seekers of unique items in World of Warcraft with their appearance and rarity. But you can't get them now; the access to the respective promotions and PvP seasons is closed, or the raids and dungeons no longer give these rewards. However, a few unconventional options might help you.

Trading Card Game

Some of them are unlocked by submitting scratch-off codes from their trading cards. Since the TCG program is discontinued, you can't find the new ones anywhere except third-party websites where players sell unused cards for these TCG mounts. Notably, such transactions are usually expensive due to the limited number of cards and frequently cause scam risks.

Black Market Auction House

Many removed items appear in new black market auction lots. It is a specific in-game location where users find unique armor sets, cosmetics, and mounts. To win the lot, offer more gold than all auction members. Others are likely to hinder you from doing it because very few of these items are available now, and everyone wants them.

Black Market is a real though expansive option to get a rare animal friend. However, it is not the easiest way to get Wow Gladiator creatures and other beasts, especially the earlier ones.

WoW Gladiator Character Transfer Service

Frostyboost offers a Gladiator Character transfer service as a solution to obtain the most prestigious gladiator mounts that would later become unobtainable. It ensures safe character transfer between WoW accounts with no penalties or ban risks. Using the service, you can get rare beasts such as Obsidian Gladiator Mount, Sinful Gladiator Mount, or perhaps those from earlier seasons.

Try the standard option, taking 30 days to complete, or the express version. Whatever the choice, Frostyboost ensures safe passage through the WoW account rename option. Your animal friends remain unactivated and in the bag, as it should be. After you contact the team, it will help manage all the payment and character transfer details.

Frostyboost has rapidly gained popularity among World of Warcraft players, who point to quality and safety in the Trustpilot reviews as the most distinctive features of the website. After the Battle Net account name change, there are no links to that your character is boosted, which adds to safety.
