I hope they get some time anda bit of money to polish it up to the finish it deserves! I'll be buying this for sure. It's nice to have a game that should run smooth on my PC for a change... I like the new hi-tech ones, but graphics aren't everything and this one seems to have buckets of atmosphere and I love the story behind it and the Cthulu mythos. Tentacular!

bigjko 11-01-2005 10:42 PM

Actually, looking at the screenshots it doesn't look so bad. And usually I say the exact opposite about screenshots.

Intrepid Homoludens 11-01-2005 10:56 PM

You big graphics slut! :P

bigjko 11-03-2005 03:56 AM

Hey, I'm just preaching the truth here, sister!

I dunno WTF you're talking about. Looking good. I hope they got the AUDIO right. That's more important than anything else.

WTF who's talking about? I'm the one who said it looked good. Especially for a game that's been six years in the making.

hengst2404 11-03-2005 05:39 PM

Okay I am now about 4 hours in and I am pretty hooked on the game. It definitely has more in common with an adventure game than an FPS. I have only just found a weapon in the game. The story is very dark and quite creepy actually. There is one sequence in the game, so intense, it probably now ranks as the most intensive game enocunter I have had to date. Those who saw the movie Dagon will recognize some of the elements in the game, although the stroy is quite different. Still I applaud them for accurately depicting a story in the Cthulu mythos.

I know the scene you speak of... It was awesome.

Actually, the puzzles themselves are another part of this game's success; they aren't for the partially retarded (there's no "do you want to place the shield into the shield-shaped indent?"); in fact, sometimes they require (gasp!) reading the numerous clues you pick up. This gives you a rich overview of the game world like few games before it, and there's well-written asides that more-than-adequately placate the rabid Mythos fan. "Oooh, the save game symbol is an Elder Sign!" "Did you spot the Book of Eibon in that cut-scene?" Yes, this plus load screens with Lovecraftian excerpts give Cthulhu cultists much to praise.

This is the first frothing video game form of Cthulhu Mythos that's been done almost completely right, and this year's most frightening first-person adventure: A true cult classic.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... .. :(

I bought this game today, played for few hours and am now totally stuck.
Spoiler:
I'm trying to open the safe in the store. I have checked the diary and 100% sure of the 4 number combination. i've tried it clockwise-counterclockwise-clockwise-counterclockwise and all other possible combinations. The thing is, nothing happends. I can continue spin the wheel and get no message or anything. Pressing buttons just leaves the safe.
Wonder if i have encountered a bug or just missing something. I have the PAL version. Could some kind person tell me how they did it? Thanks in advance!

Please be more careful next time you post spoilers and solutions to puzzles.

Sorry, but i don't think there's really a spoiler in my message. It would be cool if someone could PM me how they did it, so no spoilers in this thread.

Juuso 11-07-2005 10:36 AM

Never mind guys. Got through it now. I loaded a earlier save and this time it worked just fine. go figure..

Legolas813 11-07-2005 11:03 PM

I'm an Xbox gamer, but never heard of this game until just now when I saw it on Gamespot. I don't know much about it other than it's a mix of adventure, FPS, and stealth. There have been quite a few people complaining about bugs, but the game still seems interesting after watching the Gamespot video review. Maybe I'll give it a rent.

Well, From Russia With Love received average good scores. Screw that, I'll take the cute little Cthulhu instead, because it's more unique and exciting and better..........when I get some money, that is. :shifty:

samIamsad 11-07-2005 11:46 PM

Awwwwww. That's cute! :) In the meanwhile, I might order some more Cthulhu stories. I haven't read Shadows Over Innsmouth yet (on which the game is based). Bring on the sequel (Beyond The Mountains Of Madness)! :D

There is, you should edit it with [ spoiler ] tags.

Dale Baldwin 11-08-2005 02:55 AM

Spoiler tags added too appease those that see a potential spoiler there.
I myself don't see anything that major, but hey.

Really? That's much better than I thought it was going to be. EA still haven't sussed the whole Bond game deal.

So, yeah, Cthulu. A PC version, please!

...

I'm waiting!

samIamsad 11-12-2005 02:50 AM
