Looking for new sounds to headbang to

I'm bored. And I wanna try check out new songs. Just to give you guys a rough idea what I like to listen to, I keep replaying Linkin Park - both Meteora and Hybrid Theory, Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and Hot Dog Flavored Water, System of a Down, a couple of Matthew Good Band tracks, Marilyn Manson, SUM 41, Static-X, Nine Inch Nails, Evanescence (which I've got bored with).

I've tried My Chemical Romance, but not really into it. Used to listen to Creed, but got a little tired. Seether is ok. Fort Minor doesn't really grab me. Any suggestions that I should try out?

p/s: I'm not a big fan of hip hop, so don't give me those. And no pop, either.

Dasilva 02-15-2006 10:30 AM

Red House Painters?

saucyminx 02-15-2006 10:33 AM

Front man looks cute. What kind of music is it?

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 10:37 AM

Can't help you on this front. What's wrong with asking me?

Sting not hard enough for ya?

I'd actually go out on a limb and recommend the new Nine Inch Nails album, the last album by Doves, Feeder (album before last), The Go Team, Incubus (keep meaning to get an album of theirs) and Maximo Park (hyperkinetic crazy shiznit old skool).

Dasilva 02-15-2006 10:38 AM

I'm very much a My Chem person really, system of the down is okay, I love the zelda song. lol.

Red House Painters is a cross between My Chem and System of the down.

Do you have all the System of the Down albums?

Nothing wrong, sweetie. Just interested in seeing what the majority has to contribute :)

@ DaSilva: Just that one album of theirs - Toxicity.

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 10:49 AM

You guys should listen to some real heavy stuff. This stuff is for pretenders! :P

:shifty: @ SJH

Let him have his fun. He seems to have this idea that his girl is into fluffy bunny things.

:D:D:D

Dasilva 02-15-2006 11:05 AM

If you like System of the Down you should get the other albums. I have the first one called ''System of the Down'', theres toxicity and another one.

Do you like the Killers?

RLacey 02-15-2006 11:07 AM

Pah! Romantic and 20th Century choral music is where it's at!

I'll get my coat...

Diablo and Amorphis. :)

Also Finnish sung Thrash Metal Mokoma. :)

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 11:10 AM

I think the Killers are ace. Takes me back to Duran Duran... although Mira's had her fill of Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine now. I played it to death, love the baseline.

Wot no Sepultura, Fear Factory or Machinehead being mentioned? :D OK, probably too hardcore. Deicide? :P

Excuse me, I am cultured. I had classical piano training and like every other Asian kid, I was forced to attend violin lessons, and I do enjoy listening to some Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Bach. *frosty stare at RLacey*

;)

But I really feel the need for some good, loud, metal romping music right now.

@DaSilva: My sister has "Steal This Album". I'm kicking myself right now for not making a copy of it to take with me.

Dasilva 02-15-2006 11:19 AM

My Chem is under the Emo label isent it?

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 11:22 AM

Clawfinger. Anyone remember them?

edit - been talking to Mira... she says stuff more like Slipknot etc. Only less crap. :D Korn started it and they did much better too.

Dog Eat Dog were fun.

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 11:26 AM

Rancid; Out Come The Wolves... Scream Trees; Dust ... Faith No More; Epic (what? I preferred their true heavy metal period lol)... I had a Paw album I rather liked long ago...

squarejawhero 02-15-2006 11:28 AM

Freakin' SOUNDGARDEN!!!! I loved em.

Manhunter71 02-16-2006 05:20 PM

I see that you've mostly listed relatively recent bands, with the exception of the mighty NIN, but if you're into heavy stuff there are tons of older bands I could recommend -

White Zombie
Pearl Jam
Faith No More
Wildhearts
Hole
Mudhoney
Pantera
Metallica
Ministry
Stone Temple Pilots
Stabbing Westward
Smashing Pumpkins
Therapy
Alice In Chains
Clawfinger
Iron Maiden
Kerbdog
Everclear
Jane's Addiction
Korn
Monster Magnet
Papa Roach
Queens of the Stone Age
Stuck Mojo
Temple of the Dog
The Black Crowes
Tool
Ugly Kid Joe
Reef

Alright, it is a long list, but there are so many good rock bands out there that younger people who are just starting out on their musical journey may not know about.
The bands I have listed are ones that I have constantly on my playlist, so if you want any more details about them or their music I will be happy to oblige:D

samIamsad 02-16-2006 07:21 PM

I hope you like me.

jjacob 02-16-2006 09:12 PM

You're all stark raving loonies ;)

*gets beaten into a pulp

I LOVE those two. Them plus the Pixies, Radiohead, the Breeders, Hüsker Dü, Belly, Blur, and the Sugarcubes were my soundtrack of the 90s. Rob Zombie doesn't get enough respect IMO and JA's "Been Caught Stealing" should be an entry into the best videos thread.

[ETA: I forgot to make an actual suggestion. Check out "Sweet 69" by Babes in Toyland, Mira. You might love it. I do.]

saucyminx 02-17-2006 01:56 AM

Whoosh! Hell yeah, I've completely forgotten about Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Smashing Pumpkins. *rifles through collections*

Thanks guys.

Talk about listing a lot of the bands I listened to in my teens. Reef! They submerged rather suddenly.

Where's TERRORVISION THOUGH? :pan:

Kolzig 02-17-2006 02:16 AM

Then there's also Charon.

I'm just posting about Finnish metal bands. ;)

Ninth 02-17-2006 02:19 AM

System of a Down - Hypnotise is excellent. (second only to Toxicity in my opinion)

And... do you know Rammstein? It's not everyone's cup of tea, that's for sure (for one thing, you got to like deep german voice rolling the Rs), but it's pretty high on my headbanging scale. :)

It's not their best album anyway; it's a bit too chaotic.

The first one, System of a Down is a bit too noisy for my taste, and Mesmerize (one of their latest) is a bit too soft, so, like I said, what's left are Toxicity and Hypnotise. Great stuff.

saucyminx 02-17-2006 02:29 AM

I know Rammstein. I saw only one of their videos... that weird reunion thing where they wore all white and one of them looked like Stephen Hawking and their secretaries dressed up in those hot outfits... those chicks were making out with each other, tongue and all...

Yeah. I've heard Rammstein...

Which band were you talking about the other day? The one that you were incredulous about me never hearing about it. Until I told you that I was only 11 when they came out... still wearing my pig-tails...

squarejawhero 02-17-2006 02:58 AM

No, that was Soundgarden. I'd be suprised if anyone out of the UK would remember Terrorvision.

That would be their video of "I hab keine Lust". I get the feeling that you didn't like the video... In any case, don't let that deter you; their videos are of very different qualities: some are beautiful, some are gross, some are funny, some are lame. Quite unpredictable. Did you like the song, though?

saucyminx 02-17-2006 03:08 AM

I didn't say I didn't like the video. Quite the contrary. I like it. :D

Well, then there are heaps of Rammstein songs (and videos) out there. Go for it! ;)

saucyminx 02-17-2006 03:37 AM

Heh heh, I thought that Japanese chick in that video was hot, especially when she got to tonguing that blonde. Kinky.

I love guys, ok!

Tooting my Canadian horn:
Big Wreck

Really, the whole album is great especially That Song, Oaf, and Blown Wide Open.

This is a compilation disc. I love Blonde and Blue, Settle, and Smile and Wave.
