Has Bill Watterson come out of retirement and started drawing under a pseudonym or is it just a homage.

The lead character of the Frazz looks like a grown up Calvin, the drawing is pretty similar as is the humour.

It's simply not his line. Artists draw their cartoons to what they're comfortable with. Looking over the history of Calvin and Hobbes and how his art style changed to suit his shorthand, it'd be hard to believe he'd produce another regular strip in a seperate style with a sloppier approach to line and composition. Watterson is if anything a perfectionist. All the little things about this cartoon signal to me the work of another artist - it's simply not as professional as you'd expect from someone with his experience. The large snowy panel being a good indicator.

Maybe not Calvin and Hobbes resurrected but I liked the sample enough to add it to my daily comics e-mail subscription. Thanks for the heads up Lucien21 (Still love the boogying Hobbes avatar by the way :D )

That is just so wrong! :frown: I'm going to have to go and read my collection again now to cheer myself up.

I don't even have my collection anymore, it's buried in my family's attic ;(

That is, quite simply, beautiful.

An interesting comic, but inherently flawed.

Even Watterson stated the existence of Hobbes was something even he couldn't answer, he did that on purpose, as he wanted to leave it open for self interpretation.

So having Hobbes turn into a stuffed animal at the end is totally contradictory to the tone of the series, and the person who cobbled this pic together should have realized that if they're a real fan of the series.

Also if anyone would be trying to get out of work it would be Calvin, Hobbes is the one who often tried to get Calvin to actually do his school work.

Yes ladies and gentlemen, its the complete Calvin and Hobbes series.

I was under the impression that that one was the real deal. How Hobbes turns into a stuffed animal at the end reflects a death of childhood of sorts, as brought on by ADD medication. I'd be interested to find out whether Watterson made this or not. Anyone knows for sure?

I think you're reading too much into a joke.

He didn't. Even if you didn't read every Calvin and Hobbes strip, you know it's a fake because of the poorly manipulated drawings and the joke itself.

On the contrary, it was established fairly early on that Hobbes was a stuffed tiger, but he was real to Calvin.
Examples:
During the period when Hobbes is lost and found by Susie Derkins, he appears as a stuffed animal to Susie, yet he's still real to Calvin;
When the baby raccoon Calvin finds in the woods dies, Calvin's mother is seen mourning the raccoon's passing with Hobbes (in stuffed animal form), then commenting on how broken up she must be to do so;
At least once reference is made to Hobbes having to go through the washer and dryer occasionally, and to the effect that this has on Hobbes;
And finally, in one strip Hobbes gets a rip from Calvin's rough-housing which has to be sewn up by Calvin's mother.
