Dead Mountaineer's Hotel

It seems that multiple endings is a common feature in a few upcoming games,
Dead Mountaineer's Hotel is on the top of the list, with a firm english release date
on the 31st of March and a demo coming soon on the official site
http://hotel.akella.com/
the game also features a Robust 3D real-time game engine allows for truly non-linear gameplay, and special effects (changes in weather, day and night gameplay sequences) which looks very promising.

the game is released in Russian already, did anyone try it?

kuze 01-29-2009 11:34 AM

Sorry to crush your hopes.

Ariel Type 01-29-2009 01:22 PM

Yes, the game was a real letdown

veruncheek 01-29-2009 02:39 PM

When previewed, I´ve read a comparison to The Last Express, due to its real time aspect. But from what I´ve heard lately, the game is not very good :-(

Romer 01-29-2009 06:17 PM

Really?? Aw, nuts. This was one I was counting on to fill the quality gap. Oh well.

AndreaDraco83 01-30-2009 03:31 AM

I'm too counting on this game. And I'm still doing it.

Now, we have one or two translated reviews and a couple of opinion. When So Blonde was released there were many reviews bashing it and even more people seeing that it was horrible, and it turned out to be - at least for me - one of the greatest games of this season.

So, I really want to play it! :)

Krystal 02-01-2009 04:24 PM

I'm looking forward to this game too and definitely will wait to form my own opinion, so many of my favorites games wasn't so "good" and I still enjoy them a lot. Definitely one of my to play games list. Looking forward to multiple endings too. I usually try not to expect a best seller and that way don't become dissapointed. :) Give me some interesting story, interesting characters and don't rush the ending. That will do.

tobacos 02-01-2009 04:50 PM

good news,
the game will to be released [English] in the middle of this month(feb) at Amazon.com.

Don't put your hopes into a date at an online retailer. The only dates that count are those from the publisher. Online stores estimate and they'll change on a whim.

Edit: The stupid quote tags aren't working and I can't fix them. :(

AndreaDraco83 02-01-2009 05:03 PM

I tried too, but it's seem impossible... Something must be very wrong with that link :P

Gamegirl 02-01-2009 05:29 PM

I always form my own opinions on games. Some of my favourite games got lousy reviews and other, higher rated games, I thought were pretty bad. As long as a game isn't full of bugs, if the story appeals to me, I give it a chance. I'm still looking forward to this game, too.

veruncheek 02-02-2009 06:48 AM

Although I am prepared for the worst, I will try both Mata Hari and DMH. I would like to try some demo, if it was available.

tobacos 02-18-2009 03:44 PM

The game is Released at amazon.com
i did my share and ordered it,
BUT
it says that it ships in 1 to 2 months:frown:
i cant wait!

Jackal 02-18-2009 06:22 PM

It hasn't been released. That "1 to 2 months" is just Amazon's typical way of saying it has no idea what's happening with an already-expired release date.

At this point, I wouldn't hold my breath on DMH being released at all, let alone any time soon.

tobacos 02-18-2009 07:06 PM

it will be coming out very soon anyways!

Jackal 02-18-2009 08:56 PM

I admire your enthusiasm, but unless the publisher solves its current financial problems, wishful thinking won't make it so. But I'll be sure to ask them about it again the next time I talk to them, which I do quite frequently. ;)

dekaneas297 02-19-2009 12:54 AM

Tobacos please don't spread false facts about the release of a game. It's the second time you do that and it's rather annoying. I think the owners of this site are much more suitable for this job.

JackVanian 02-19-2009 10:32 AM

yep, it doesen´t seem to look very promising, hopefully things will work out for Lighthouse. And on a personal note: Eventhough Germany gets a lot of games first, in this case we´re in "trouble". Working together with DTP ,Lighthouse was supposed to bring The Lost Crown , Rhiannon and DMH to Germany and now.. who knows what will happen to these games. I only know that i can´t take the waiting for the lost crown any longer and i´ll order it from the UK within the next days.

Krystal 10-04-2009 05:30 AM

Thinks looks grim for this title english version. We should petition another publisher to take it and bring it to us. Crossing fingers. ;(

redarmy4ever 11-23-2009 10:57 AM

Did anybody buy the english version?

qvstag 11-11-2011 06:04 PM

Anyone know where I can get the book in English? Either a physical or a digital copy for my Kindle. Couldn't find it on Amazon... I guess it's not a very mainstream book but I like the general concept of the story and would be interested in reading it.

From the games web page it states that the game is "Based on a story by the famous Russian authors, the Strugatsky Brothers" but maybe the name of the book is different. You can download English versions of at least some of their books from the brothers web page here http://rusf.ru/abs/english/ Maybe if you contacted them or Akella they could tell you the name of the book the game is based on? Let us know if you find anything out.

Arial Type 12-05-2011 04:36 PM

The name of the book is the same: Dead Mountaineer's Hotel, by Strugatsky Brothers. Although Wikipedia states that It is known as Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle in the English translation, published in 1988 by Richardson, Steirman & Black. I only read the original Russian text. It is a really interesting and original blend of detective, comedy and sci-fi, and one of the finest Strugatsky novels. The game is nothing compared to it.

GreyFuss 12-05-2011 05:37 PM

Thanks Arial Type that is good to know. I am searching to see if there is anywhere selling the English release.
