playing Still Life

Just started playing Still Life this weekend. So far it's very good. I just needed to share. :)

Solid Snake 06-25-2006 03:56 PM

Just wait till you get to the lockpick puzzle and after that robot control thing

scribeswindow 06-25-2006 08:27 PM

mmm something to look forward to. Don't you just love adventure games? I don't understand why more people don't play them.

Psychocandy 06-26-2006 08:50 AM

I'm ashamed to say that I never got past
Spoiler:
the Robot-control segment
without downloading a Savegame. I tried for several days and that was enough. If i'd spent any more time on that thing, my PC would very soon have found itself lying next to a computer-shaped hole in my front window.

The lockpick puzzle is great. Don`t give up and consult a walkthrough, it`s much better to find out for yourself.

Spoiler:
KriD, who had to use a walkthrough on the cake puzzle.:shifty:

I absolutely loved Still Life! Sure, some puzzles were difficult, the lockpick indeed. I ended up consulting all of the hints on that particular puzzle on the UHS hint system. Others were just lovely. The atmosphere of the game, the environments and the story was exactly my cup of tea!

I totally love this game, but I am stuck at the robot part. I've looked up a walkthrough and I still can't do it! Why do they have to put this kind of puzzle in it!?! Its not fair!!! Aaarg!!

I started playing Still Life too a couple of days ago...
It seems great so far. Great graphics and sound/music especially.
But i have some complains...
1)Some voiceovers suck....I mean Victoria's dad. My god, he's soooo like reading the script in a dull mood. Not real at all.
2)One of the worst integration of puzzles i've ever seen. Why on earth would a doctor of Prague in 1900s(i think) have a safe with hieroglyfics lock? And why on earth would a plain old chest in the attic have a lock that can be found only in a Myst game (although you can easily understand what pattern is needed, for me it wasss way too difficult to make it, so i randomly clicked the thingies till i had the combination)
Well so far im at the old chapel scene in prague....

Spoiler:
I went up the wall to the left (the robot's left) after having passed the first pair of beams. I also used the roof on a couple of occasions to make it all the way.

scribeswindow 06-27-2006 04:18 PM

I am shamefacedly admitting to using a walk through at the lock pick puzzle. Haven't come to a robot yet..... At work now and I am having withdrawals from the game!!!!

I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit I used the UHS for the lock pick and the robot puzzles. I don't play these games for the puzzles, and I rarely if ever get that visceral charge other people get when they complete one without help. I'm only having a good time if I'm completely engrossed inthe story and the environment itself. But then, I'm known for that.

So yeah, playing Victoria was great. I truly wish there was a way for the Devs to get the rights to produce the sequel to this story. One of the better stories I've been through this year.

Lee Edward McIlmoyle,
really needs to add a sig to his profile

I liked the puzzles in Still Life, for the most part. I loved the baking one. I found the lockpick too hard, I had to get UHS help for that one. The robot one was fine. The best thing about the game was the atmosphere.

Arash 06-27-2006 11:18 PM

Robot control bit was very clear and easy and fun. didn't have a problem with that.

equallyAvant 06-28-2006 05:55 AM

Yesterday i finished Still Life....hmmm quite a short game.
The curse of the totaly out of place puzzles continues although i enjoyed them and i only had problems in the old chapel safe puzzle.
Voice acting was not as bad as it looked like in the beginning.
Sound fx and atmosphere continued in very high level...
but the ending....emm....:shifty:

And like i read in some old posts about the game....
...well although it had a great atmosphere, in gameplay it was very poor.
With only one clickable item per scene mostly, it should be called "Interactive" Novel with some puzzles for bonus

Solid Snake 06-28-2006 09:34 AM

Let's face it Still life is good but not that good

scribeswindow 07-02-2006 04:12 PM

Finished Still Life on the weekend. No fair!! Much too short!! I confess to doing the walk through with the lock puzzle and got frustrated with robot game, so called hubby over and explained what he had to do and gave him a shot. He did it in a few minutes. Was quite relieved. Very sick of sending robot thingys into that room. Good game. Now I'm going to check out the web page for the rest of the story.......

Started Broken Sword #1 this weekend too. :)

Sadly, the one sad note in all of this is that all of the webpages put in place for the Still Life game are sadly down. The whole server account must have expired or been cancelled, so all of the web content the game promises just isn't there. *sigh*

Melanie68 07-02-2006 05:27 PM

The company (Microids) got bought out and the people who bought them (Ubisoft I believe) probably didn't bother to continue the website (my conjecture).

Lee in Limbo 07-02-2006 05:35 PM

A good solid educated guess, I'd say. I assume the same thing. And yes, it was Ubisoft, from what I read, although they don't seem to be doing anything other than distributing and owning it. With the Devs canned, there doesn't seem to be any future for it, especially given Ubi's known predilection for owning properties to death, whether they are using it or not. I don't see the devs ever getting possession of it, and I imagine Microids has lost control of the property rights as well. Probably spells doom for any future development for Kate Walker, as well as Gus and Victoria McPherson. Too bad, really. They're such great AG characters.

i just finished Still Life recently and was terribly disappointed with the abrupt and open-ended conclusion. nevertheless, the game was great on the whole. i just hope we'll somehow see a Still Life 2.

what game would you all recommend for a fan of Still Life?
