I did EXACTLY the same thing! Played Maniac Mansion 12 or more years ago, didn't really like it all that much, didn't finish it and decided that I would not waste time on a sequel. But everybody kept saying how great DoTT was and this year I finally finally decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and play it at least for one hour... I was hooked from the start.
It immediately found its way to my top ten.
