For those like me who couldn't use the save game that Gil provided, I think this is the answer. If you are running Win7, the game can't run under 64bit so you find it in the x86 directory. The game writes the saves to the regular save game dir but also to another dir, something like users/user/appdata/local/virtualstore/??????, and it will only access that dir. So you can change the regular saves but the game won't see it. I found the same thing with Diablo 2.

So to use the save game you would have to find the 'virtual' saves and copy the files there - if you can, I never bothered. Oh, and the virtual files maybe hidden so you would have to unhide them first.

The good news is that there may be a patch coming out so you can skip the rain dance.
