so i could be missing on some bugs that Fien mentions but game starts without troubles. There's only one trick to it - everytime you enter the main menu press F1 BEFORE you do anything else! After that, the game won't crash.

Glad you mentioned the very useful F1, I'd forgotten all about it. But I had a different problem. I'd exhausted all dialogues, options, locations early in Act II and the game refused to move forward. So I consulted a walkthrough and apparently some of the things I'd already done in Act I should have taken place in Act II. Great. I had to replay Act I and do everything by the book. From then on, it went smoothly.
