It is not in the business model of console manufacturers to support backwards compatibility. You see, they will do anything to make you buy the latest console and the latest games. They don't have any interest in you playing your old favorites instead. Ironically, it's the PC platform where you can play your PS2 legacy games (look at PCSX2).
