I don't know, I get the idea that Von Zell was a right SOB, but scenes in the game seemed to show that he was a bit tormented, I'm wondering if Von Zell intended for Gabe to kill him to release him from the curse.

I always found Von Zell an interesting character and wish we had found out a bit more about him.
