What a difference a graphics driver update makes (or at least appears to). This game has gone from running smoothly and then suddenly grinding to a halt to running reasonably for what appears to be all of the time. I'm not about to start counting my chickens, but hopefully being able to play it for more than five minutes is here to stay.

That problem, of course, has limited how far I've been able to get in this. I'm currently leaving the excavation site, so I'm still fairly near to the beginning. Oh well.
