When I first played Loom, I also didn't know about the Audio Drama. It was only years later that I found it. It serves as an introduction to the game, and without it, the beginning of the game seems a bit abrupt. Too bad that they only shipped it with the first few editions of the game.

But these days you can legally download it from here (click "Loom" on the left, and you'll find it.). You can listen to it without having actually played Loom, because as I said, it is the introduction to the game, but it's also a beautiful story in itself.
