For now, the most story-driven shooter I've played, or better said, the shooter which had better story was the very missed "Realms of the Haunting". What a masterpiece, and how bad has its engine aged.

Both System Shocks are great too. The first one was one of those games where you were given information of what was going on without actually seeing it, and it worked. Monolith Games are usually fun, though their "FEAR" is below their standards.

A point that sometimes people miss is that you don't need dialogue to tell a story. Haven't you played "Another World"? This was an arcade game that told you a very interesting and complex story without a word. Made in 1991. Still better than any other effort in story-driven arcade games.
