Default A really great short story...

Hey, guys. I came across this really enjoyable short story on another site, and I thought I should share it with you. Unusual, I know, but that's how good it is!

---EXTRACT---

On the bridge of the ship, a man stood, looking through the viewport. It was shaped like one of those old-fashioned telescopes, and as he stared out into the inky blackness of space, he paused to reflect on this. One of the oldest navigational tools in existence, and it was now serving mankind as it explored the oldest of uncharted frontiers.

He stopped. A glint had caught his eye. Like a star, flickering as it stuttered its way to the end of its life, something had been there for just a moment, and then was gone.

He squinted, willing himself to look harder through the viewport. His vision swam slightly, and then came tightly into focus.

"Oh no!"

The man rubbed his eyes. He couldn't quite believe it.

Here I am, he thought, out in space, and this... this THING is coming towards me and...

His thoughts were interrupted by the loudest noise he had ever heard.

*CRASH!*

Alarms sounded. The man ran for the escape pod, like his life depended on it.

------

Here's the full thing. Well worth reading.
