Pornography, be it on film, in games, or in print, exists for one reason: The sexual gratification of the viewer/player/reader. It's not really that interesting an area, as it's very purpose limits its creativity.

A far more interesting discussion is erotic elements in otherwise "mainstream" games. Game characters (outside of the aforementioned "adult" genre) rarely display any kind of sexuality or sexual preference, unless necessary to the plot.

Hinted lesbianism in games such as Fear Effect or Bloodrayne, the ability to engage in same sex escapades in the Fallout games, the sexual undercurrent in VTM: Bloodlines, are little more than "nudge-nudge, wink-wink" titilation largely executed on behave of pubescent male gamers.

In-game nudity is pretty much the same deal.

I would find it very hard to justify a sex scene (hetero or otherwise) in an otherwise mainstream game, beyond "Why not?", as doing so would just lead to comparisons with the O.S.S (Obligatory Sex Scene) in modern "pulp" fiction.

Sex scenes in movies or novels really serve no specific narrative purpose, other than titillation, that couldn't be accomplished with the old fade out night, fade in morning move.

Unless your game is about the trials and tribulations of somebodies sex life, I see very little manouverability in trying to justify the inclusion of overt sexual content.

Covert sexual content, such as that which pervades and defines the Vampire genre, is yet another debate.
