Have you ever tried running a shower attachment off separate hot and cold taps? You pull the rubber things over the individual taps and you know one side or the other (or on rare ocasions both) will spring off just when you turn the water on.

With a mixer tap you can plumb that in direct thus avoiding paiin and confusion for those of us that have just got up early to get ready for our daily commute. (When I shower that is. Not now.I've been at work for hours now)
