The BBC has more than 5 channels, but only 2 are on analogue TV. BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, BBC4, Cbeebies, CBBC, BBC News 24, BBC Parliament, etc. The licence fee doesn't pay for anything except the BBC channels though. ITV, Channel4 and 5 are all paid for by adverts.
Freeview (
http://www.freeview.co.uk/) is free digital TV and for a one-off fee to but the set-top-box (typically about 40 quid) then you get BBC1-4, ITV1-4, ITV play, c4, e4, c4+1, more4, film4, 5, Sky3, UKTV History, Ftn, abc1, CBBC, Cbeebies, CITV, and some more crap that I can't be bothered copying from that website...
