I've seen people mention the DS several times in this thread, but that really isn't the same thing. I don't understand how Nintendo are going to sell a console with a name pronounced "Wee" to the general public. Yes, it's all over the net, but I find it just a tad unlikely that it's the kind of name the casual gamer - a large part of Nintendo's target demographic - are going to go for. At least DS has an obvious meaning and is a name with no other implications; at issue there was the idea of the technology, not the branding or marketing plans. Here they've got a console with the difficult-to-sell ideas and a ridiculous name; they're just shooting themselves in the foot, surely?
I mean, seriously: how am I going to persuade non-gamers to try Wii™?
