Context matters. "I'd like a Wii" sounds much closer to one definition of the word than the other. Nintendo's marketing department might tell people that it has to do with the word "we" but when it's actually used in a sentence it resembles "wee" in functionality much more closely, so that's what a lot of people are jumping to (and making fun of).
