Apple Menu > "Apple System Profiler" > "System Profile" > "Memory Overview" to see just how much memory you have.
That machine originally shipped with OS 8.6, I think.
Will it see the install disk when you put it in the CD-ROM drive while the machine is running? (Does the CD's icon appear on the desktop?)
If it does, click on the icon. You should get an instruction screen showing the steps for installation. On the second or third of these, it will list the requirements for installing OS 10.4 (Processor, RAM, etc). At some point, usually on the first screen, it will tell you exactly which OS version you're trying to install.
By the way, are these actual Apple disks, or are they something you downloaded and burned to discs on your PC?
